About the Role

We’re looking for a Staff Data Engineer to define the architecture and long-term evolution of Syndio’s data platform as we scale into AI-driven products.

This role owns the technical direction for how data is structured, standardized, modeled, and activated across the company, with a particular focus on enabling LLM-powered systems and decisioning workflows.

You will design, architect, and build data pipelines that produce the data products powering analytics, product experiences, and Syndio's LLM-powered systems. Your work will shape how data is used across the company and enable the development of Syndio's decision graph and AI capabilities. This includes solving complex challenges such as multi-tenant schema standardization, automated field mapping, retrieval-ready data modeling, and data pipelines for AI evaluation and feedback loops.

You will operate across pipeline architecture, platform design, and cross-functional data strategy, partnering closely with product, data science, and engineering leadership.

Technical Experience

• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL

• Cloud platforms: GCP (preferred), AWS, or Azure
• Cloud data warehouses: BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, or similar
• Data transformation: dbt or equivalent modern transformation frameworks
• Relational databases: Postgres, MySQL, or similar
• Streaming and CDC ingestion patterns (Datastream, Debezium, Kafka, or similar)
• Data governance and lineage tooling

Nice to Have

• Experience building AI-native data platforms or developer tooling
• Experience with event-driven or streaming architectures
• Background in high-scale systems or large multi-tenant SaaS platforms
• Familiarity with compensation or HR data domains

Role Progression:

• By the 3rd Month, you will have a working knowledge of Syndio's data domain and existing pipeline architecture. You'll be making hands-on contributions to the data layer codebase, building familiarity with the systems you'll eventually evolve.
• By your 6th Month, you will take technical ownership of the AI data infrastructure, defining the architectural direction for how data is modeled and served to AI systems. You'll establish company-wide standards for data contracts and pipeline architecture, and lead solutions for our hardest data standardization challenges.
• By 9 months in, you will set the long-term technical direction for Syndio's data platform and AI-driven systems, with a focus on governance, PII handling, and lineage. As the SME, you'll mentor other engineers and break down complex platform initiatives for the team to execute.

The Developer Productivity team supports the software development ecosystem used by thousands of engineers to develop and maintain MongoDB Server and developer tools in a complex matrix of multi-platform self-hosted products and multi-cloud hosted environments. As a senior staff engineer you’ll be responsible for helping shape the future of our developer ecosystem and ensure we take advantage of the rapidly-evolving engineering landscape. You will partner with engineering leadership across the company to identify system-wide opportunities to accelerate developer velocity and efficiency, enhancing smart data collection and integrating analytics assistants that produce actionable insights every step of the way.

Candidate Profile

• Minimum 10 years of experience in the developer productivity domain in large engineering environments, including building, and operationalizing complex, reliable systems
• Strong experience supporting one or more of C++, Java, Go, Python, Rust, Node, Typescript
• Strong understanding of DevOps culture and tooling
• Extensive experience with CI/CD pipelines, common deployment models and infrastructure, and various techniques used to safely roll changes into production environments
• Hands-on experience implementing metrics and observability tools and best practices, as well as data processing pipeline technologies such as Iceberg, Trino, Kafka
• Proven track record of driving technical execution and vision for organizations with 50+ team members
• Skilled in advocating for and representing the needs of a 1000+ customer base to internal platform teams

Responsibilities

• Drive strong operational excellence standards for internal software development tools and services, helping define golden paths that optimize the efficiency and velocity of our engineering organization
• Design software development systems to ensure best practices and champion industry standards
• Advise Engineering partners on technical implications of systems design with regards to complexity, testability, and maintainability
• Lead development and project management of some of the largest projects within MongoDB to improve developer productivity and software quality, particularly around data-driven insights and optimizations
• Provide technical mentorship and leadership to the Developer Productivity organization, promoting best practices and fostering team growth

Bonus points if the candidate has experience with:

• Strong systems fundamentals, including testing and monitoring multi-threaded systems
• Performance profiling of complex systems
• Leveraging best of breed AI tools & technologies in the developer productivity domain along with the necessary telemetry and analytics to measure effectiveness in a rapidly changing environment
• Experience supporting the development of database internals or core components for data processing systems

Success Measures

• In the first month, you will have understood the high level architecture of at least one of the systems within the MongoDB developer ecosystem and fixed a few bugs
• In three months, you will have a broad understanding of the overall developer ecosystem and be taking on code review responsibilities
• In six months, you will have taken on code and design review responsibilities for key systems within the software development ecosystem
• In twelve months, you will be leading the development of MongoDB’s next generation developer ecosystem, helping to mentor engineers on the team, and using your experience to drive the long-term DevProd-wide technical roadmap

We are seeking an experienced Staff Mobile Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate loves working with technology and has a proven track record of leading, building and delivering complex mobile applications. This role requires navigating ambiguity and shaping the long term direction of our mobile products.

You will work as part of our mobile team to redefine wealth management for both advisors and their clients. Our infrastructure is built with a Microservices approach and our tech stack includes React Native, with TypeScript, Node, Serverless, GraphQL, MongoDB, and AWS. 

As a key member of our Mobile team, you will be helping set the strategy for OneVests mobile applications by: (1) establishing and building patterns customer and client interactions, (2) designing and building customer and client mobile experiences, (3) building tooling, CI and releases processes that enable scalable and efficient delivery of enterprise applications to our customers.

What you’ll be doing:

• Building out the OneVest mobile application in React Native, using GraphQL APIs
• Partnering cross-functionally to collaborate on solution design, balancing technical excellence with delivery velocity
• Leading technical design and architecture of large-scale features by designing and breaking down complex epics into deliverable stories and tasks
• Continuously improving our codebase and developer experience by identifying and resolving systemic technical debt, adopting new/better practices and tools
• Owning the mobile lifecycle, from local development and automated testing to CI/CD and store deployments
• Mentoring and providing leadership through technical reviews for product stories and providing feedback to peers through code and architecture review
• Proactively managing project risks and cross-team dependencies while resolving complex technical issues and customer escalations
• Championing best practices across quality, patterns, tools and processes to ensure both OneVest and our platform scales for enterprise customers

Must Haves:

• 8+ years mobile development experience with a strong focus in React Native, and JavaScript/TypeScript
• Proven ability to architect, develop and maintain mobile applications for enterprise scale
• Experience with FastLane, Expo, App/Play stores, TestFlight, etc., for build, CI/CD, and deployment tools for react-native applications
• Proven ability to effectively contribute to technical strategy and roadmaps 
• Expertise in designing scalable and performant front end architectures integrating with complex GraphQL microservice backends
• Strong communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical decisions to a wide audience
