Your Impact
The Axon SkyHero Firmware team in the Robotics New Ventures Pillar supports critical Drone offerings for Special Forces and Law Enforcement. These Drones work together harmoniously to provide Tactical Reconnaissance and Advantage during critical and stressful missions. Both aerial and ground robots are developed, please see the product portfolio, here: https://www.axon.com/products/axon-sky-hero. We are actively working on truly disruptive innovative next-generation Drone technology that we strongly believe will advance our mission to Protect Life.
The Axon SkyHero Firmware team specifically owns the “Lower Middleware” layers on a very powerful Embedded Linux System-on-Chip and the Flight Controller. “Lower Middleware” in this sense consists of high performance, low latency, user-space daemons on a robotics-optimized system bus. All firmware aspects related to “Flying” are handled by this team, and this team collaborates very closely with an adjacent team of Controls and Vision Engineers. This team also collaborates very closely with Platform Board Support Package (BSP), Camera Imaging, and “Upper Middleware” teams, and hardware engineering. Rust is the preferred language, but C/C++ is also used. Python is used for scripting and testing.
As a strong, senior engineer - either level 1 or level 2 senior engineer - on the SkyHero Firmware team, you’ll be responsible for developing and architecting a diverse set of robotics-based features related to “Flying” and actively helping Controls Engineers “Tune” the Drone. You’ll promote best practices for software testing. You’ll be collaborating on a series of very deep algorithms that provides “Advanced Flying and Maneuvering” capabilities, among other innovations that fuse a large number of sensors, actuators and/or motors. You will be authoring design documents, mentoring less-senior engineers, and doing your part to instill a culture of engineering excellence.

This role is based out of our Brussel office and follows a hybrid schedule. Reports to: Robotics Firmware Engineering Manager
- Be part of a high-performing team that designs and develops game-changing Robotics products to Protect Life
- Architect, design and develop software and algorithms for Drones, Rovers and other Robots
- Develop in C/C++, Rust in resource-constrained Embedded Systems and use a scripting language like Python to prototype
- Integrate Sensors and Actuator, complex logic and autonomous behavior
- Design and develop new use-cases on Robots, translating requirements into features and tests
- Implement Robotics use-cases in ROS2 and custom Robotics Frameworks
- Ensure High Quality during the entire product lifecycle, designing and implement Unit Tests, Integration Tests and CI pipelines
- Be hands-on with prototyping, development, and debugging in all stages of the product lifecycle
- Collaborate with distributed Hardware, Software, Firmware, Control Systems, Manufacturing and Compliance teams
- Be a Team Player, Mentor, Strong Communicator and be ready and willing to support the Team when needed
What You Bring
While all candidates will be considered, those candidates who have active Robotics experience on mobile phone-like System-on-Chips (SoC) using embedded Linux experience will have prioritization over those with Microcontroller experience only. We also prioritize candidates who demonstrates having shipped a product from start to finish; and, sticking with the product post-release so as to have learned from its in-market performance.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Robotics or equivalent
- Minimum 7+ years of industry experience building commercial products
- Minimum 7+ years experience with C/C++, Python and/or other systems programming languages such as Rust
- Demonstrated track record of bringing commercial devices to the market
- Experience with performant inter-process communication
- Strong experience with Userspace Linux Kernel development and performance optimization
- Strong understanding of Systems Architecture, with the ability to implement complex, multi-device, interrelated systems
- Strong understanding of Operating Systems, Concurrency and Networking concepts
- Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and QA processes
- Solid Software Engineering background (algorithms, data structures)
- Experience with Sensor peripherals (accelerometers, time-of-flight, magnetometer, etc.) and Cameras
- Familiarity with cryptographic primitives and mechanisms (AES, Root of Trust, Secure Boot)
Any experience with the following is a plus:
- Experience with Robotics simulation tools such as Gazebo
- Experience with Computer Vision techniques (SLAM/VIO), Control systems, Trajectory Optimization Problems, etc.
- Experience with MAVLink, PX4 or similar Flight Controllers
- Experience with ROS2 System Bus
- Experience with one or more of the following: ZeroMQ, Zenoh, iceoryx
- Experience with the Yocto build system
- Experience with Bare-Metal Firmware Development on MCUs
- Experience with Linux Kernel and Driver development

Your Impact
We are seeking multiple highly skilled Full-Stack members of Technical Staff (MTS) to join our CoreAI organization, driving end-to-end development of AI systems across Cloud, Edge Devices, Mission Critical and Robotics platforms.
This role goes beyond pure research. You will operate across the full stack, from data, models, and infrastructure to system integration and production deployment, to deliver scalable, real-world AI solutions. You will work on cutting-edge applications spanning computer vision, NLU, multimodal AI (MLLMs), and GenAI, enabling intelligent perception, reasoning, and action in mission-critical environments.
As a senior technical leader, you will partner closely with research scientists, machine learning engineers, hardware, firmware, and product teams to translate advanced algorithms into robust, production-ready systems that operate reliably at scale.

Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end system development across data pipelines, model development, evaluation, and deployment for AI-powered products.
- Design and build scalable, production-grade systems for real-time perception, multimodal understanding, and decision-making.
- Develop and deploy models across cloud and edge environments, including resource-constrained devices.
- Architect and optimize full-stack AI pipelines, including:
- Translate research advances in computer vision, NLU, GenAI, and multimodal LLMs into production systems.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with MLE, hardware, firmware, and product teams to integrate AI into real-world systems.
- Optimize solutions for hardware-specific acceleration (GPU, NPU, DSP) and edge deployment.
- Define and drive evaluation frameworks and metrics to ensure system performance, reliability, and safety.
- Lead technical direction for complex, ambiguous problems and influence system architecture across teams.
- Contribute to technical design docs, internal knowledge sharing, and long-term platform strategy.
Basic Qualifications
- Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- 8+ years (L8) or 10+ years (L9) of industry experience building production systems
- Strong programming skills in Python/C++ and experience with modern ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow)
- Proven experience delivering end-to-end systems from concept to production
- Deep expertise in one or more areas:
- Experience building and scaling distributed systems or cloud-based ML pipelines
- Experience optimizing models for latency, cost, and deployment constraints
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience deploying AI both on Cloud (AWS, AzureML), edge devices (e.g., mobile, embedded systems, robotics platforms on Qualcomm, NVIDIA, Intel)
- Familiarity with hardware acceleration frameworks (TensorRT, ONNX, SNPE, etc.)
- Experience with real-time systems and streaming data pipelines
- Knowledge of multimodal data processing (vision, audio, text, sensor fusion)
- Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms for large-scale inference and training
- Strong system design and architecture skills across cloud ↔ edge environments
- Track record of technical leadership, mentoring, and driving cross-team initiatives
- Experience in privacy-preserving AI, security, or safety-critical systems

Your Impact

As an Test Engineer, you’ll contribute to advance Axon’s mission to Protect Life, by designing test automation systems for boards(PCBAs) and systems for Mission-Critical robots like UAVs, UGVs, etc.

Using your knowledge and creativity you’ll solve challenging problems in Test Engineering, and you’ll design, assemble and debug electronics boards and prototypes, being a force of proposal in our R&D test process.

- Participate in research and development of our next generation products test platform
- Design schematic, PCBs, test, verify prototypes and assist the Firmware and Software Engineering Teams in bringing up new boards
- Design and build custom test systems for measuring the performance of our electronics systems
- Test and measure boards, multi-board assemblies and electronic components such as batteries, motors, etc.
- Support manufacturing and follow up designs when changes are required due to component obsolescence or unavailability
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- 5+ years of industry-leading electronics design experience with emphasis on designing test automation solutions for PCBAs.
- A passion and curiosity for Embedded Electronics systems
- Comfortable using test equipment such as DMM, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer
- Excellent hands-on skills: able to assemble board prototypes with lab equipment
- Excellent all-round electronics knowledge, from analog to digital
- Proficient doing multi-layer PCB layouts and/or rigid-flex designs
- Awareness of EMC and signal integrity issues and best practices as they relate to PCB design
- Knowledge of at least one EDA package: Altium Designer and/or Cadence OrCAD

The Axon Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC) team in Brussels 🇧🇪 in the Robotics New Ventures pillar supports critical drone and robotics offerings for Special Forces and Law Enforcement. These robots work together to provide tactical reconnaissance and an advantage during critical, high-risk and stressful missions. We are actively working on truly disruptive next-generation drone & robotics technology that we strongly believe will advance our mission to Protect Life.
The GNC team is responsible for the software stack that makes these robots fly, communicate, and operate reliably. This includes flight modes, mission logic, integration with the PX4 flight controller, and the middleware and services that tie the system together — all running on Linux in Rust and C++ with ROS 2.
As a Senior Robotics Software Engineer I on the GNC team, you'll be a core contributor to this stack. You'll design and build performance-sensitive software across flight modes, communication with ground control stations, telemetry, sensor integration and processing, and the middleware that connects it all. You'll improve the reliability of existing systems and help lay the software foundations for future autonomy capabilities.
This is a software engineering role first — you'll bring robotics domain knowledge and apply it to building a robust, well-architected platform. You'll collaborate closely with firmware, computer vision, and imaging teams across Belgium and Finland, as well as US-based teams for architecture and integration planning.

What You’ll Do

- Design and develop performance-sensitive software in Rust and C++
- Architect and implement flight modes, mission logic, and middleware services on ROS 2
- Integrate with the PX4 flight controller and contribute to its configuration and extension
- Identify and drive improvements to software quality, reliability, and architecture
- Debug and resolve complex systems issues across the stack — from inter-process communication to soft real-time performance
- Collaborate with firmware, computer vision, and imaging teams on cross-functional features
- Participate in design discussions and code reviews as a senior technical contributor
- Support flight testing and iterate based on real-world results
- Contribute to build systems, CI/CD pipelines, and testing infrastructure
What You Bring
Candidates with active robotics or drone experience writing performance-sensitive software on Linux will be prioritized. We are looking for a strong software engineer first who brings robotics domain knowledge.
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
- 8+ years of professional experience in systems-level software engineering
- Strong experience with Rust, C++, or C — writing performance-sensitive code that manages memory deliberately and handles concurrency correctly
- Strong Linux experience as a development and deployment platform
- Solid understanding of systems fundamentals: memory management, inter-process communication, multithreading, and synchronization
- Professional experience working on robotics or drone systems
- Experience with ROS 2
- Effective communicator who can articulate technical trade-offs across teams and time-zones
- Proficiency in English is required; French or Dutch is a plus
Any experience with the following is a plus:

Your Impact
You will contribute to Axon’s product line as part of the Axon Robotics team (formerly Sky-Hero). We are building career-defining, next-generation Drones and Robots to help reach our Moonshot: cut gun-related deaths between police and the public by 50% in 10 years.
As an Electrical Engineer, you’ll contribute to advance Axon’s mission to Protect Life, by designing and prototyping electronic boards and systems for Mission-Critical robots like UAVs, UGVs, etc.
EDA tools include Altium Designer and Cadence OrCAD/Allegro.
Using your knowledge and creativity you’ll solve challenging problems in Electronics Engineering, and you’ll design, assemble and debug electronics boards and prototypes, being a force of proposal in our R&D process.

This role is based out of our Brussel office and follows a hybrid schedule. Reports to: Director of Engineering
- Participate in research and development of our next generation products
- Design schematic, PCBs, test, verify prototypes and assist the Firmware and Software Engineering Teams in bringing up new boards
- Design and build custom test systems for measuring the performance of our electronics systems
- Test and measure boards, multi-board assemblies and electronic components such as batteries, motors, etc.
- Support manufacturing and follow up designs when changes are required due to component obsolescence or unavailability
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- 6+ years of industry-leading electronics design experience with emphasis on designing densely populated, tightly packaged, battery-powered embedded systems.
- A passion and curiosity for designing Embedded Electronics systems
- Comfortable using test equipment such as DMM, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer
- Excellent hands-on skills: able to assemble board prototypes with lab equipment
- Excellent all-round electronics knowledge, from analog to digital
- Proficient doing multi-layer PCB layouts and/or rigid-flex designs
- Awareness of EMC and signal integrity issues and best practices as they relate to PCB design
- Knowledge of at least one EDA package: Altium Designer and/or Cadence OrCAD
- Knowledge of the C and Python programming languages for test firmware development
- Passion for Drones and Robots
- English proficiency required, French and or Dutch are a plus
- Any experience with the following is a plus:
- BLDC motors and motor controllers
- EMC compliance and certification
- CE/RED and FCC legislation

We are seeking highly skilled and innovative Machine Learning Scientists to join our AI team, focusing on AI applications (LLM and Computer Vision) in Cloud, Devices and Robotics. Responsibilities
- Own one or more key technical areas across LLM, MLLM, CV product portfolio.
- Provide technical leadership to junior scientists, guiding the transition of R&D concepts into impactful Axon product feature.
- Research and develop cutting-edge techniques in LLM, MLLMs, GenAI, and Computer Vision across cloud, devices and sensors based data sources.
- Design and implement efficient and scalable MLLM models for inference and analysis of multimodal data.

- Contribute to patent disclosures, academic publications, and technical documentation to share insights and findings with the broader community.

What You Bring
- PhD and with +5 years for ML Scientist, +8 years for Sr. ML Scientist, +10 years for Principal ML Scientist experience in Computer Science or a related field with a focus on LLM, MLLMs, Computer Vision, GenAI.
- Proven track record of research excellence in LLM, MLLM, Computer Vision, Robotics Perception, GenAI, demonstrated through publications in top-tier conferences or journals.
- Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C/C++, experience with deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras and experience with ROS or robotic operational system.
- Drive one or more phases of the ML development lifecycle: shape datasets, investigate modeling approaches and architectures, train/evaluate/tune models and implement the end-to-end training pipeline.
- Leverage state-of-the-art research to deliver high quality models enabling multiple AI projects at scale.
- Contribute back to the research community via academic publications, tech blogs, open-source code and contributing to internal/external AI challenges
- Experience in developing computer vision algorithms for resource-constrained devices such as mobile phones, IoT devices, or embedded systems is highly desirable.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively present complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
