Technical Training Lead

Location/Site: Temple, TX   

Segment: Petcare

Shift schedule: Day-based Monday- Friday with the ability to be flexible when needed

 

The Training Lead collaborates and leads the development of the overarching training program across all site departments. The Training Lead will support all Mars Supply Excellence pillars to improve and grow sites training program and in turn site skills.

Job Purpose/Overview

The Training Lead is accountable for the execution and tracking of the site training program, utilizing step up cards/skill matrix. They will collaborate on the development of the over-arching training program, support development of training materials, track associate participation, manage the logistics of delivering training, and, at times, presents training materials to teams and individuals.  This role will deliver training sessions as required to either end users or as part of “Train the Trainer” sessions.  The Training Lead provides program feedback and suggestions to the Supply Excellence Manager to improve the overall program effectiveness continuously.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all Mars Safety Rules & Regulations to ensure a safe workplace
  • Comply with Mars Petcare Quality and Food Safety Practices, GMPs, and other Food Safety and Regulatory Standards to ensure we manufacture a quality product
  • Comply with Mars Supply Excellence principles and standards (TPM methods) and be a key owner in the Education and Training pillar
  • Attend production meetings and pillar community of practice meetings
  • The ability to operate, troubleshoot computer and tablet website-based programs and navigate/coach learning management software (site utilizes Poka and Alchemy)
  • Any other duties assigned by your line manager
  • Must have the ability to flex schedule within the defined overtime policy to achieve business needs

Principle Accountabilities

  • Develop and maintain training records for all associates site-wide
  • Organization design for building skills. Amending and revising programs as necessary, to adapt to changes in the work environment and build a efficient OJT onboarding program
  • Develop training materials such as videos, presentations, SOPs, pamphlets, e-learnings targeting specific skills as defined by the training program
  • Work with external vendors to provide specific technical training to site associates
  • Serve as a presenter of training materials, including nights
  • Provide “Train the Trainer” sessions to shift leaders to enable them to deliver training modules within their teams and deliver Teach, Coach, Assess training for pillars and OJT trainers
  • Recommend training courses for areas with performance issues based on information from the FMOS process, Pillars, direct observation on the production floor, and partnership with Staff, Shift Managers, and Shift Leads and technical resources
  • Schedule and coordinate individual and team training sessions
  • Continuously seek and support new approaches, practices and processes to improve the efficiency of training services offered
  • Ensuring skills evolve across plant functions to standardize workforce progression
  • Work closely with CVS to develop training requirements for new projects/processes
  • Help line managers to solve specific training needs/problems, either one-on-one or in a group
  • Negotiate a training schedule with site leadership
  • Responsible for ensuring all associates are aware of training dates/times/locations
  • Provide performance feedback to the Line Managers for ratings purposes as it relates to certification levels, training completions, and overall engagement in the training program of associates
  • Support site audits, ensuring we have robust tracking to meet audit compliance requirements

Job Specifications/Qualifications

  • Education and Professional Qualifications:
  • Associate degree or higher in Human Resources, Adult Education, Business Management, basic sciences, or other manufacturing-related disciplines. (in lieu of degree, certifications and experience in field considered)
  • 3 years of experience in developing and delivering training as part of a manufacturing team or as a production leader
  • Familiarity with traditional and modern training methods such as learning management system software (mentoring, coaching, on-the-job or in-classroom training, e-learning, workshops, simulations, etc.)

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Experience with traditional and modern training methods (mentoring, coaching, on-the-job or in classroom training, e-learning, workshops, simulations, etc.)
  • Proven ability to develop training materials from scratch and fully implement
  • Project management skills
  • Strong presentation and speaking skills
  • Effective collaboration skills across multiple functional departments, including working with people and organization design in a manufacturing environment
  • Familiar with Total Productive Maintenance or other manufacturing methodology
  • Ability to multi-task and manage time efficiently
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, internet/learning software, e-mail, electronic devices
  • Ability to work any shift as needed
  • Ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment
  • Ability to translate floor processes into documented training materials
  • Preferred - Minimum 5 years of experience in a production environment
  • Preferred - Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices in a food production environment
