Role Summary

As a Technical Mentor (TM) in the Creative Tech-Lite vertical, you’ll support learners in the Content Creation program as they build practical skills in storytelling, visual communication, and content creation.

You’ll guide learners through group mentorship sessions, provide technical support and feedback on their learning progress, and contribute to a vibrant community where learners can share ideas, learn from one another, and grow together.

This role is ideal for an experienced digital creative who understands the content creation landscape, enjoys experimenting with creative tools and formats, and is passionate about helping others develop their skills and confidence.

Specific Responsibilities

Technical Support (60%)

  • Facilitate weekly live study sessions and walkthroughs on topics such as brand building, video editing, storytelling, and content strategy
  • Mentor learners on core content creation skills, including hooks, scripting, storytelling, and video structure
  • Provide async guidance on tools, workflows, project submissions, and portfolios through the community platform
  • Provide actionable technical feedback and flag opportunities to improve curriculum content, briefs, resources, and tooling
  • Recommend relevant tools, resources, and best practices based on evolving content platforms and industry trends
  • Support learners in building strong portfolios and personal brands that position them to attract clients or employment opportunities

Community Engagement & Peer Facilitation (40%)

  • Maintain a consistent daily presence on the community platform, encouraging peer collaboration, discussion, and Q&A
  • Build a positive community culture by celebrating learner progress and recognising high-quality peer contributions
  • Support 2–3 live community events each month, including creative showcases, feedback sessions, and portfolio reviews
  • Create and share weekly community content, including tools, frameworks, practical tips, creative prompts, and discussion starters
  • Collaborate with the Community team to shape community tone, programming, and responses to learner needs

Skill Requirements - Essential

  • Proven experience as a digital content creator, with a track record of creating and publishing engaging content
  • Strong understanding of storytelling, audience engagement, and content growth strategies
  • Proficiency in content creation and editing tools such as CapCut, Canva, Premiere Pro, or DaVinci Resolve
  • Ability to use content performance metrics to evaluate what’s working and inform content decisions
  • Experience mentoring, coaching, or providing constructive feedback to early-stage creatives
  • Comfort working with mobile-first and accessible tools, including open-source solutions where relevant

Skill Requirements - Preferable

  • Experience building and growing a content brand from the ground up
  • Strong understanding of African creative landscapes, audiences, and cultural narratives
  • Experience monetizing content through channels such as AdSense, affiliate marketing, and brand partnerships
  • Understanding of content business fundamentals, including contracts, pricing, partnerships, and crowdfunding
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating successful content campaigns, storytelling, and audience growth strategies

As this is a fully remote role, the successful applicant must be highly self-motivated, organized, and comfortable working in a digital-first environment. You will report directly to your program manager and collaborate with cross-functional teams using tools such as Zoom, Slack, Gmail, and the community engagement platform (Circle). Communication is key; success in this role depends on your ability to stay connected, proactively share updates, and engage meaningfully with both teammates and learners. You’ll be encouraged to continuously grow your skills and pursue certifications that support your professional development.
