A Day in the Life

Across our global Neuroscience organization, we advance care for some of medicine's most complex neurological and spinal conditions. By combining innovative technology, data-driven insights, and deep clinical expertise, we partner with physicians and health systems to improve how patients are treated and supported throughout their care journey.

The AiBLE portfolio brings together navigation, robotics, advanced imaging, data-driven planning, and connected care technologies that support surgical procedures across Cranial, Spine, and ENT specialties. The organization focuses on creating clinically integrated experiences that connect products, platforms, and workflows into a cohesive ecosystem, enabling healthcare teams to access the information, insights, and technologies needed throughout the surgical journey.

This position is based in Lafayette, Colorado and is an onsite role. The position partners closely with engineering, product management, clinical, quality, operations, and commercial teams to shape the future of surgical technology experiences. Travel up to 20% is expected to support collaboration across geographies, clinical observations, surgeon engagement, conferences, and design activities.

         

         

As a Senior User Experience Engineer, you will lead the design and integration of user experiences across a portfolio of surgical technologies, helping define how software, hardware, data, and clinical workflows work together to support healthcare professionals and patients. This role combines user experience engineering, human factors expertise, systems thinking, and cross-functional leadership to drive the development of connected solutions that deliver consistent and effective experiences across multiple products and platforms.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Define and drive a cohesive user experience vision across the AiBLE ecosystem spanning Cranial, Spine, and ENT solutions.
  • Lead the design of user interface architectures, interaction models, workflows, and integrated system experiences that improve surgical workflows and clinical outcomes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to develop software, hardware, and connected system experiences across navigation, robotics, advanced imaging, and cloud-connected technologies.
  • Translate user research, clinical observations, and human factors insights into product requirements, concepts, and design solutions.
  • Establish and maintain design standards, design language frameworks, and experience guidelines that promote consistency across products and platforms.
  • Influence portfolio strategies and product decisions through user-centered and data-informed recommendations that support interoperability and long-term platform evolution.
  • Develop and evaluate concepts, prototypes, and design alternatives to inform product direction, technical feasibility, and future capabilities.
  • Mentor engineers and stakeholders on user experience engineering methods, usability practices, and human-centered design principles.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a technically related STEM field with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree in a technically related STEM field with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or PhD in a technically related STEM field.
  • Demonstrated experience leading the design and development of complex software, medical device, healthcare technology, or integrated system solutions.
  • Experience applying user-centered design, human factors engineering, usability engineering, or related methodologies within product development environments.
  • Proven experience influencing cross-functional teams and driving strategic initiatives across organizations.
  • Experience creating user workflows, interaction models, interface architectures, or system-level experience designs for complex technical products.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience within the medical device industry, surgical technologies, surgical capital equipment, or healthcare software environments.
  • Experience with navigation, robotics, imaging, artificial intelligence-enabled healthcare technologies, or connected digital health platforms.
  • Knowledge of IEC 62366, Food and Drug Administration Human Factors guidance, and medical device design controls.
  • Experience working within Agile or scaled Agile development environments across multiple teams and stakeholders.
  • Experience aligning engineering execution with portfolio strategies, product roadmaps, and ecosystem-level design approaches.

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$126,400.00 - $189,600.00

 

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).
