Role Definition:

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will lead analytics programs, provide technical direction, and partner with cross functional stakeholders to deliver high impact solutions for Caterpillar business units, dealers, and customers.

The Senior Data Scientist will:

  • Lead and contribute to 3 - 4 concurrent analytics projects with significant business impact
  • Apply advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to solve business problems
  • Coach and mentor other Data Scientists in model development, validation, and deployment
  • Provide technical leadership while balancing innovation with customer commitments
  • Communicate complex analytical results clearly to non-technical audiences
  • Proactively research and apply emerging analytics methods and technologies
  • Develop a deep understanding of Caterpillar’s products, systems, processes, customers, and market environment

Responsibilities

  • Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of statistical and machine learning algorithms.
  • Strong command of MS Office and data visualization tools such as Power BI.
  • Proven leadership abilities, self-motivation, effective interpersonal skills, and exceptional communication capabilities.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Practical experience with Deep Learning and Agentic AI
  • Proficiency with Snowflake and AWS
  • Experience with GitHub, DBT, Copilot, and cloud-native tools

Education Qualification:

Bachelor's degree in statistics, economics, mathematics, engineering, or a related quantitative discipline with 7-10 years of quantitative analytics experience; alternatively, a Master's degree with 4-6 years of relevant experience, or a PhD with 1-3 years of relevant experience

Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.

Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

Machine Learning: Knowledge of principles, technologies and algorithms of machine learning; ability to develop, implement and deliver related systems, products and services.

Programming Languages: Knowledge of basic concepts and capabilities of programming; ability to use tools, techniques and platforms in order to write and modify programming languages.

Query and Database Access Tools: Knowledge of data management systems; ability to use, support and access facilities for searching, extracting and formatting data for further use.

Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project

Hybrid and flexible work environment due to the scope of role supporting global projects.

This position requires working onsite five days a week.
