The Investments Business Solution Area supports the technology needs of Nationwide Investments and Nationwide Asset Management. Nationwide Investments manages the invested assets of Nationwide supporting property and casualty and financial services companies. Additionally, Nationwide Investments sub-advises certain fixed income mutual funds and third-party accounts. Assets under management are in excess of $100 Billion.

 

Technology required to support this critical function are investment industry specific and driven by asset class. There is a high dependence on vendor platforms that are geared toward the accelerated pace of change in financial markets, and the application portfolio additionally includes many data driven utilities, batch components, and custom web applications the successful candidate will be able (and expected to) help enhance and support by assignment to any one of several agile development lines.

 

The ideal candidate will possess the following attributes:

* Proven ability to work in a team environment

* Strong Intellectual curiosity and self-starting approach

* Interest extending beyond front-end / web development, including core processing systems (both custom developed and vendor purchased), batch/data interaction models.

* Experience developing software via Agile software development methodologies

* Proven ability and passion for sharing knowledge effectively (technical mentorship and knowledge management)

* Interest in developing business acumen in the Financial Services / Investment Management domain

 

Technical Skills:

ETL, SQL, Oracle, Ruby, and data analysis skills are required.

Desired skills: Java, Eagle Investment Systems experience, Informatica, AWS, and Tosca.

 

While this position can be performed remotely within the United States, preference will be given to candidates who can work from Nationwide’s Columbus, OH office, with the option for a hybrid work arrangement.

As a Software Engineer, you will focus primarily on providing high quality, efficient technology solutions to business partners by crafting new software applications or modifying and/or supporting existing packaged or custom-built applications. In this capacity, you’ll analyze, code, configure, test, debug, document and maintain applications.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes, solutions, develops, tests, debugs, documents and deploys software according to standards in an agile environment.

  • Applies secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.

  • Uses DevSecOps practices, tooling and techniques.

  • Drives continuous improvement and learning through ongoing training, practice and innovation.

  • Manages medium to large project priorities, deadlines and deliverables proactively.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to a Technology Manager/Director. 

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Completion of undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or other related degree. Technology experience or non-traditional technology certificates can be substituted for an undergraduate degree. 

Experience: Four or more years of analysis and technology experience.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proficiency in one or more programming language such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript. Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle. Proven ability to tackle complex business and development problems. Ability to thrive in a team environment. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence. 

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resources Business Partner.

Note on Compensation for Part-Time Roles: Please be aware that the salary ranges listed below reflect full-time compensation. Actual compensation may be prorated based on the number of hours worked relative to a full-time schedule.

The national salary range for Specialist, Software Engineer : $95,500.00-$177,500.00

The expected starting salary range for Specialist, Software Engineer : $95,500.00 - $143,500.00
