Who You Are:

As a member of the MOIC Design Team, A Show Set Designer, you use a variety of techniques and tools to develop the Show Set Package for new museum openings and contribute to design updates in existing units. As a member of the Development team, You will work with the Senior Show Manager and Production team to develop our exhibits, facilities and overall guest experience development. Using creative, technical, and architectural knowledge, you will take concepts provided by leadership and translate them into developed models and drawing packages that tell our story to all stakeholders engaged in the project.

Your Day-to-Day:

3D Modeling & Drafting:

  • Under the management of the Senior Show Manager and in partnership with the Lead Show Set Designer and Design Team to, translate creative intent, sketches, and reference materials into accurate 3D models, plans, elevations, and sections.
  • Annotate and assemble these assets into high-quality, comprehensive sheet sets and show set packages.
  • Primarily modeling to be completed using Rhino
  • Modeling to follow MOIC Design Team modeling standards with respect to model export to Revit for BIM management and architectural coordination
  • Draft Show Set Packages to follow MOIC Design Team Drafting Standards

Development,Integration & Detailing:

  • Develop experiences from the Concept phase through to Design Development.
  • This includes but is not limited to guest experience, guest interaction, and spatial design to support the experience design.
  • Detail show elements within themed environments—including scenery, special effects, show action equipment, animated figures, props, lighting, audio equipment, and hardware.
  • Develop in-field solutions and follow-up documentation for construction and fabrication of all show elements.
  • While projects are in development, participate in design, cost analysis, and technical reviews.

Brand & Technical Standards:

  • Ensure all art/finish specifications, material selections, and design drawings meet brand standards, maintain creative intent, and deliver actionable technical instructions for fabrication.
  • Ensure documentation of finish specifications, materials specification and design drawings meet brand standards and clearly communicate the creative intent as specified by leadership.
  • Responsible for developing creative design, color boards, sketching, drafting, models, and other creative output provided by the Senior Show Manager, that outline solutions to integrate elements into a themed exhibit environment.

The pay range for this role is between $70-$80/per hour dependent on experience.

Requirements

The Necessities:

  • Proficient skill in Rhino and Revit
  • Comfortable AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, Sketch-Up, and various other 3D softwares and image creation tools
  • Proficiency in working in sheet sets and developing Show Set packages from Concept thru DD phase
  • Fundamental understanding of time management, fabrication methods and materials, and general cost of fabrication
  • 2-5 years of experience in relevant professional workplace
  • Portfolio of drawing sets, renders and previous design work, relative to the position
  • Willingness and ability to problem solve complex design solution when building new and existing spaces
  • A creative mind and vision that you apply to your work as well as a passion for building experiences, themed spaces, and new worlds
  • Los Angeles Area based
  • Comfortable with hybrid working environment

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience designing for and developing show sets for themed entertainment projects
  • Experience in narrative development; i.e. experience design, immersive theater, film, TV, etc.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience in relative design field, preferably with a focus on scenic/themed entertainment
  • An ability and desire to walk the line between technical and creative design work
  • An architectural background
  • Interior Design background relevant to Themed Entertainment
  • 1 year+ fabrication experience
