Summary

The Shop Utility Worker will be personally responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the facility, bins washing and maintenance related duties. The Shop Utility Worker will be responsible for other miscellaneous duties as assigned by the Manager. The Shop UtilityWorker position will require to work overtime and weekend as needed.

Job Description

Essential Job Functions: 
 

Yard & Facility

  • Maintain the yard in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
  • Pick up trash, debris, and loose materials throughout the facility. 
  • Sweep and clean work areas, parking areas, fueling areas, and designated walkways. 
  • Maintain cleanliness around dumpsters, containers, buildings, and equipment. 
  • Assist with general yard organization and housekeeping. 
  • Remove or address water, mud, spills, or other hazards as assigned. 
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions or facility concerns to supervision. 

Truck & Equipment Support

  • Assist with the cleaning and general appearance of collection trucks and equipment. 
  • Wash, rinse, and clean trucks and equipment as assigned. 
  • Remove accumulated debris from designated areas of trucks and equipment when safe and authorized to do so. 
  • Help move or stage trucks and equipment when authorized, trained, and qualified. 
  • Verify trucks are properly parked and positioned as directed for the next day's operation. 
  • Assist drivers, technicians, and supervisors with non-mechanical support tasks. 
  • Identify and report equipment damage, leaks, cleanliness concerns, safety hazards, or apparent maintenance issues. 

General Operational Support

  • Assist with moving supplies, parts, tools, and materials throughout the yard. 
  • Assist with loading and unloading materials when appropriate. 
  • Assist with setting up and breaking down areas for meetings, training, safety events, or other yard activities. 
  • Support supervisors and other departments with miscellaneous operational and yard-related assignments. 
  • Perform other duties reasonably related to the position and operation.

Basic Facility & Construction Support

  • Possess a general working knowledge of basic construction, facility maintenance, and repair tasks. 
  • Perform basic interior and exterior painting, including safety markings, bollards, poles, curbs, railings, and other designated areas. 
  • Assist with minor drywall patching and repairs. 
  • Perform basic facility repairs and general upkeep as assigned. 
  • Assist with minor assembly, mounting, and installation tasks. 
  • Assist with preparation of work areas, including sanding, scraping, masking, cleaning, and other surface preparation. 
  • Support facility improvement projects by assisting with materials, cleanup, demolition, preparation, and general labor. 
  • Maintain and properly use basic hand and power tools associated with assigned tasks. 
  • Identify and report facility damage or repairs requiring a qualified or licensed trade.

Required Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. 
  • 1 year of experience in general hands-on facility maintenance or basic construction 
  • Experience with basic painting, minor drywall repairs, using common hand power tools, basic installations/repairs and general facility upkeep. 
  • Excellent organizational skills. 
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.  

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bilingual (English & Spanish).

Physical:

  • Standing, walking, seeing, hearing, & smelling continuously.
  • Eye/hand coordination, handling, & wrist motion continuously.
  • Bending, reaching, stretching, standing, & walking occasionally.

Environmental:

Exposure to dust, smoke, fumes, odors, & noise continuously.
Exposure to grease, oil, chemicals, & wet conditions occasionally.
Works outside. 
 

Hourly Rate: $21.22 per hour

Schedule: Monday - Friday from 6:00 am - 2:30 pm
