The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for leading all shipping operations to ensure the safe, accurate, and on-time delivery of finished goods to customers and distribution centers. This role supervises daily shipping activities, coordinates with Production, Planning, Customer Service, Transportation, and Warehouse teams, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to achieve operational excellence.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong organizational skills, excellent follow-up, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

Operations Management

  • Supervise daily shipping activities to ensure on-time customer deliveries.
  • Coordinate shipment priorities based on production schedules and customer requirements.
  • Ensure accurate order verification, loading, labeling, and shipping documentation.
  • Monitor daily shipping performance against established KPIs.
  • Optimize trailer utilization and shipping capacity.
  • Coordinate carrier appointments and dispatch schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with domestic and international shipping requirements.

Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop shipping personnel.
  • Conduct daily shift meetings.
  • Assign workloads and balance manpower according to operational needs.
  • Monitor employee performance and provide continuous feedback.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, training, and performance evaluations.

Coordination & Communication

  • Maintain close communication with:
    • Production
    • Planning
    • Purchasing
    • Warehouse
    • Transportation
    • Customer Service
  • Escalate potential shipping risks proactively.
  • Provide timely operational updates to management.
  • Ensure effective communication across all shifts.

Inventory & Accuracy

  • Ensure shipping accuracy through verification processes.
  • Monitor inventory discrepancies affecting shipments.
  • Support cycle counts and inventory reconciliation activities.
  • Maintain accurate shipping records within ERP systems.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve shipping efficiency.
  • Lead Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Reduce shipping errors and transportation costs.
  • Improve dock utilization and loading efficiency.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies.
  • Enforce PPE requirements.
  • Maintain clean and organized shipping areas following 5S principles.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards and customer-specific requirements.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in:
    • Industrial Engineering
    • Logistics
    • Supply Chain
    • Business Administration
    • Related field

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in Shipping, Warehouse, or Logistics.
  • 2+ years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
  • Experience managing hourly employees.
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred).
