Your Role and Responsibilities

In this role, you'll deliver world-class power systems support and expertise that keeps mission-critical infrastructure running reliably. Every day, you'll combine technical excellence with customer focus—solving complex problems, driving continuous improvement, and helping customers achieve their operational goals.

Work model: On-site in Napier, New Zealand with travel to customer sites as needed

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide expert technical support and troubleshoot complex power systems problems across various service categories (commissioning, maintenance, fault-finding, retrofits), both remotely and on-site
  • Lead specialist service projects independently—managing timelines, budgets, technical delivery, documentation, and HSE compliance while coordinating internal and external teams
  • Act as a technical consultant to management and customers, recommending cost-effective service solutions and identifying new service opportunities by collaborating with ABB sales teams
  • Drive continuous improvement by sharing best practices, developing comprehensive technical documentation, and proactively suggesting product and quality enhancements

Qualifications for the Role

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent professional electrical registration
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in technical support, field service, or similar roles within the power industry
  • Deep expertise in power systems, power electronics, power quality, energy management, and grid stability concepts
  • Excellent communication skills—able to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, critical thinking under pressure, and proven ability to manage complex projects independently
  • Willingness to travel nationally and internationally to customer sites for commissioning, support, and training activities
  • Demonstrated commitment to Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) standards, operational integrity, and continuous learning
