Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) — a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Senior Program Evaluation Associate with our Research & Evaluation Department.

The Senior Program Evaluation Associate will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children’s Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.

The Senior Program Evaluation Associate will join our Research and Evaluation team, which leverages data-driven decision-making and provides crucial insights into program effectiveness and strategic direction for HCZ’s mission-driven initiatives. The individual will be an integral part of implementing and maintaining program evaluation systems that support the efficient collection and dissemination of program information within the organization and with our external partners. They will also help maintain schedules and templates for tracking the progress of programs across the organization in relation to key indicators. Critically, the individual will compile and share program data in a format that facilitates understanding of the impact and highlights opportunities for innovation.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in a relevant field (e.g., Health or Public Policy, Economics, Sociology, Psychology, Statistics, or Data Science); Ph.D. preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in program implementation and evaluation or academic research settings strongly preferred
  • Experience with Excel, social sciences software (SPSS, Stata, or R), and online survey platforms (SurveyMonkey, Qualtrics)
  • Outstanding analytical ability and comprehensive statistical knowledge
  • Strong end-to-end project management skills with advanced attention to detail
  • Ability to lead projects with minimal supervision while producing high-quality deliverables on time
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues across the organization with varying degrees of experience.
  • Ability to infer actionable insights from original and secondary research
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and data integrity.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and manage competing priorities effectively.

  • Substantial content knowledge in the areas of public health, poverty alleviation, law and public policy, childhood development, K-12 education, college access and success, community development, or health equity/health disparities
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment 
  • Outstanding analytical ability and advanced statistical knowledge
  • Ability to produce high-quality deliverables on time
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues across the organization with varying degrees of experience 
  • Experience with community building, youth development, or related work preferred 
  • Prior experience with youth and adults of diverse cultural backgrounds 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

What you'll do

  • Partner with department leaders and program teams to execute evaluation plans and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Collect, clean, and analyze quantitative and qualitative data to assess program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Maintain data accuracy, completeness, and timeliness across all systems and programs.
  • Conduct basic and advanced analyses to generate actionable insights for program planning and decision-making.
  • Develop and refine outcome measures, indicators, and evaluation tools that capture program impact.
  • Support the design, documentation, and optimization of data collection and reporting processes across departments.
  • Prepare clear, data-driven reports, dashboards, and visualizations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate evaluation practices into daily operations and strategic planning.
  • Provide ongoing data and evaluation support to program leaders to strengthen evidence-based decision-making.
  • Stay current on emerging research methodologies, evaluation techniques, and data systems relevant to education and social impact.

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday
  • Hybrid (3 days in the office, 2 days remote)
