The role

We are looking for a PHP Engineer to join the Ferryhopper team in Athens.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for integrating and maintaining 3rd-party data providers and ferry operators into the Ferryhopper booking platform. We are actively looking to fill 2 positions.

Responsibilities:

• Integrate APIs of different data providers and ferry operators into Ferryhopper
• Bridge the business logic of 3rd-party APIs with that of Ferryhopper
• Optimize existing integrations for performance, scalability, and reliability
• Investigate and resolve integration and production issues
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to team knowledge sharing
• Use AI tools to improve development, investigation, and day-to-day productivity
• Stay up to date with relevant technologies and apply them when they can improve our work

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of experience in web application development (open-source or freelancing experience counts)
• Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming principles and best practices
• Strong programming skills in PHP 8.x+
• Working experience with Symfony or Laravel
• Experience using AI tools for code generation and development assistance
• Good experience with Git and issue-tracking tools
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Ability to write clean, maintainable, well-documented, and testable code
• Ability to take ownership of technical issues and drive them to completion

It would be a plus

• Hands-on experience with Docker and containerization
• Familiarity with testing suites and CI/CD tools
• Hands-on experience with unit testing in PHP (PHPUnit, Codeception)
• Experience with RESTful APIs
• Good understanding of SOAP services
• Familiarity with Amazon AWS
• Experience with relational databases (MySQL, MariaDB)
