Responsible for leading the team that plans and executes merchandising transitions across White Cap branches in support of the Category Management strategy and implementation roadmap. Oversees the Merchandising Project Manager and the Manager, Merchandising Space Planning.  Responsible for building the processes, tools, templates, and capabilities necessary to enable effective project planning & execution, space planning, and off-shelf merchandising. Partners closely with the Senior Director, Merchandise Planning & Implementation, Category Management, and cross-functional partners to prioritize, plan, and deliver high-quality projects on time, within scope and budget, while developing repeatable processes and a high-performing implementation team.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

  • Leads the design, development, and standardization of processes, tools, templates, playbooks, and best practices for project planning & execution, space planning (including planogram development), and off-shelf merchandising programs to enable consistent, scalable, and high-quality delivery across the branch and DC network.

  • Leads the overall design, standardization, and portfolio-level governance of processes, tools, templates, playbooks, and best practices for project planning & execution, space planning, and off-shelf merchandising programs to enable scalable, repeatable delivery across the branch and DC network.

  • Provides day-to-day leadership and project oversight across the implementation team. Develops processes and measurements to minimize defects, reduce cycle times, and optimize spend while delivering metrics, measurement, evaluation, and reporting for the merchandising project portfolio.

  • Leads and develops a high-performing implementation team, including the Merchandising Project Manager. Selects, directs, coaches, and mentors team members, providing ongoing performance feedback, setting priorities, and supporting assigned projects.

  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with the field organization, category management, key suppliers, and service teams to drive seamless execution, continuous improvement, and consistent rollout of merchandising changes across the branch and DC network.

Nature and Scope

  • Solutions require analysis and investigation.

  • Achieves planned results by decisions and actions based on professional methods, business principles, and practical experience. May recommend/make decisions regarding new programs/initiatives that have significant impact to the business and carry consequences in unsuccessful endeavors.

  • Manages a larger team or multiple small teams through direction of subordinate management and/or supervisory staff.

Work Environment

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Education and Experience

  • Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Generally 7+ years of experience in a related field. May require certification. Advanced degree may offset less experience in some disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven experience leading merchandising planning, execution, or project teams across large nationwide retailers or Distributors
  • Demonstrated track record of building and developing high-performing teams, managing cross-functional projects, and driving execution with field/branch teams
  • Experience building standardized processes and delivering measurable improvements in cycle time, quality, and cost optimization
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills with the ability to adapt to an everchanging environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across multiple departments
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel required; Visio, Smartsheet, and project management tools a plus) and planogram software

This is a hybrid position. Eligible candidates residing in the greater Atlanta area will be asked to work two days a week in our Doraville, GA Field Support Center.
