ROLE OVERVIEW AND PURPOSE
We’re looking for a senior commercial leader to act as the Commercial Director’s principal deputy and take ownership of the full contract lifecycle across ABM UK B&I. This role sits at the centre of commercial strategy, governance, and performance, ensuring that both client contracts and subcontractor agreements are structured, approved, managed, and executed in a way that protects margin, cash, delivery, and risk while supporting sustainable growth.
This is a high-impact role with broad visibility across the business. You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders across Business Development, Legal, Procurement, Operations, and Finance, while also engaging directly with clients, suppliers, advisers, and external counsel on material commercial matters.
What you’ll be doing
- Supporting the Commercial Director in shaping and delivering the UK B&I commercial strategy, priorities, and resource plan
- Leading the commercial operating model and contract governance framework across assigned business lines and portfolios
- Owning the end-to-end contract chain, from opportunity qualification and bid review through mobilisation, delivery, change, renewal, dispute, and exit
- Leading the commercial and contractual review of tenders, renewals, and extensions, including risk assessment, negotiation strategy, approvals, and recommendations
- Working in partnership with Procurement and Legal to ensure strong subcontractor flow-down and clear management of residual risk
- Acting as a senior point of escalation for complex or high-value commercial issues and deputising for the Commercial Director when needed
- Driving strong commercial mobilisation and handover processes so delivery teams are set up with clarity on obligations, controls, risks, and entitlements
- Supporting post-contract governance, including obligations, change control, claims, disputes, renewals, and commercial performance management
- Leading the commercial strategy for renewals, extensions, exits, and closeout activity
- Coaching and developing Commercial Managers and commercial professionals, while helping build commercial capability across the wider business
Requirements
Desired experience
• Typically 7+ years' relevant commercial, contract or quantity-surveying experience, including senior responsibility in facilities management, technical services, engineering, infrastructure or another complex outsourced-services environment.
• Demonstrable leadership of the commercial and financial performance of high-value, multi-contract portfolios across the full contract lifecycle.
• Extensive pre-contract experience reviewing, interpreting, negotiating and qualifying client terms.
• Strong post-contract experience in commercial governance, payment mechanisms, indexation, change, variations, compensation events, claims and dispute resolution.
• Proven experience creating and managing subcontract flow-down, back-to-back risk positions and material supplier-contract issues in partnership with Procurement and Legal.
• Evidence of protecting or improving margin, recovering revenue or debt, resolving material claims and turning contractual entitlement into measurable financial outcomes.
• Experience leading managers and professional staff and influencing senior operational, financial, legal, procurement and client stakeholders across a matrix organisation.
• Experience establishing commercial governance, risk and opportunity reviews, delegated authority controls and audit-ready contract records.
