Senior Accountant – Corporate Accounting

The Senior Accountant – Corporate Accounting will play a key role in the monthly close process and support the Company's financial closing and accounting operations. This position will be responsible for accounting areas including clinical trial and operating expense accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, invoice review, account reconciliations, and financial statement support. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, possesses strong knowledge of US GAAP, and thrives in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities

Month-End Close

  • Prepare and record monthly journal entries, including operating expense accruals and other recurring close activities.
  • Prepare and maintain account reconciliations and supporting schedules for assigned balance sheet accounts.
  • Investigate and resolve reconciling items timely and accurately.

Clinical Trial & Operating Expense Accruals

  • Prepare and record period-end accruals for clinical trial activities, consultants, CROs, CMOs, and other research and development expenditures.
  • Prepare and record operating expense accruals and other recurring period-end close entries.
  • Partner with vendors, CROs, Clinical, CMC, and other business functions to establish and maintain processes for obtaining supporting documentation, activity reports, and operational data required to support period-end accruals.
  • Analyze clinical trial activity, contractual commitments, vendor invoices, and operational data to develop accurate period-end accrual estimates.
  • Maintain supporting schedules and documentation for accrual balances and provide audit support as needed.

AP and Invoice Review

  • Review vendor invoices for appropriate coding, documentation, and approval in accordance with Company policies.
  • Review prepaid expenditures and ensure appropriate classification and accounting treatment.
  • Investigate and resolve invoice discrepancies, aging items, and reconciling differences in a timely manner.

Prepaid Expenses and Fixed Assets

  • Maintain prepaid expense schedules and amortization calculations.
  • Maintain the fixed asset subledger and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain lease accounting schedules and supporting documentation, including the preparation of periodic lease entries and account reconciliations.
  • Review contracts and vendor agreements to determine appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Monitor prepaid and fixed assets balances and ensure timely recognition of expenses.

Financial Reporting Support

  • Assist with preparation of financial reporting packages.
  • Prepare supporting schedules for financial disclosures and reporting.
  • Perform variance analyses and provide explanations of key account fluctuations.
  • Support financial statement audits and reviews by external auditors.

Controls & Process Improvement

  • Participate in the execution and documentation of internal controls and SOX compliance activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and close efficiency.
  • Assist with process enhancement initiatives as needed.
  • Support projects, cross-functional initiatives, and other accounting and finance activities as needed.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Experience in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or life sciences industry.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP.
  • Experience with month-end close, account reconciliations, and supporting audits.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Preferred

  • Experience preparing and analyzing clinical trial accruals and research and development expense accounting.
  • CPA or CPA candidate.
  • Public accounting experience and/or publicly traded company experience.
  • Experience with NetSuite or other large-scale ERP systems.
  • Experience supporting internal control and SOX compliance processes.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments.

Education and Experience

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • 2–3 years of hands-on experience in an Accounts Payable or finance support role within a public company, ideally in the life sciences sector.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and procure-to-pay (P2P) workflows.
  • Proven ability to manage high volumes of invoices and vendor communications with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Experience with ERP systems, especially NetSuite, and AP automation platforms such as Tipalti is highly desirable.
  • Prior involvement in month-end close support, including accrual preparation and reconciliations, is a plus.
  • Familiarity with SOX-compliant environments and internal control procedures is an advantage.

This position is eligible for standard Company benefits including medical, dental, vision, time off and 401K, as well as participating in Mineralys incentive plans are contingent on achievement of personal and company performance. Actual compensation may vary from posted hiring range based on geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level.

Travel

This position requires up to 10% travel. Frequently travel is outside the local area and overnight.
