Our new medical-surgical unit is an exciting extension of our award-winning 9th Floor Surgical Med-Surg team, bringing with it the same culture of collaboration, clinical excellence, and compassionate care that earned the prestigious AMSN PRISM Award—a national recognition celebrating sustained excellence in nursing leadership, patient outcomes, interprofessional teamwork, and a healthy work environment. As the newest Cleveland Clinic Bariatric Center of Excellence, in partnership with South Pointe, our team will provide specialized, high-quality care for bariatric patients while continuing to care for a diverse surgical population, including orthopedic, vascular, gynecologic, urologic, plastic and reconstructive, wound care, and general surgery patients such as appendectomies, cholecystectomies, exploratory laparotomies, and many others. A caregiver in this position works day/night rotation from 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. OR 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m. with weekend and holiday rotation requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Provide direct nursing care. 

• Implement and monitor patient care plans.  

• Monitor, record and communicate patients’ conditions.  
• Evaluate, update and revise plan of care to facilitate achievement of planned and expected outcomes

• Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.  

• Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs. 
• Educate patients and family with educational materials considering cultural issues and other special concerns
• Administer prescribed medications and treatment in accordance with approved nursing protocol 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing (ADN or BSN program)   

• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)  

• Basic Life Support certification (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR the American Red Cross
• One year of current acute care RN experience OR military RN experience 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

• Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN)

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
• Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
