The role

We seek an experienced Resident Engineer Tunnel to oversee tunnel construction, compliance, safety, quality and schedules on a major infrastructure project. The role requires close coordination with contractors, supervision teams and stakeholders to deliver the tunnel works successfully.

  • Supervise daily tunnel works to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards and project requirements.
  • Monitor performance and progress against approved programmes and schedules.
  • Inspect tunnel excavation, support systems, lining, portals and related underground works.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and risk requirements.
  • Conduct site inspections to verify compliance with approved designs and engineering standards.
  • Review tunnel-related method statements, material submittals, shop drawings and construction procedures.
  • Monitor materials, workmanship and testing for compliance with project specifications.
  • Identify construction risks, geotechnical issues and potential delays, and recommend corrective action.
  • Prepare progress reports, site records, inspection reports and tunnel-work documentation.
  • Verify measurements, quantities and completed works for payment certification.
  • Support project leadership in meeting milestones and ensuring successful delivery.

You will bring proven experience in a similar consultancy role, along with a strong ability to build trusted relationships, drive positive change and secure new opportunities.

Suitable applicants will have/be:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university. Master's Degree in Engineering Geology, Rock Mechanics, or a related field will be an advantage.
  • Minimum 15 years of overall professional experience.
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in tunnel engineering and construction.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Resident Engineer or Assistant Resident Engineer on tunnel projects.
  • Strong understanding of tunnel construction methods, safety requirements, and quality control procedures.
  • Experience on major infrastructure or underground construction projects.
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.
