The Opportunity

The TELUS Health App is a Total Wellbeing Platform sold to companies across the globe. It is the first port of call for employees to get support, help and advice on issues affecting their work and home lives. This can range from reading a useful article on a mental health issue, carrying out a financial assessment or even speaking to a counsellor. The App also includes fitness tracking features and integrations; perks and benefits such as gift cards; and social recognition features. All of which help support employee well-being.

How We Do It

Our platform is expanding globally, and with this expansion comes new challenges such as

distributed data storage, and processing and performance improvements.

Our team work at every stage of the software development life cycle - designing solutions, writing and testing code, and automating deployments. They also collaborate with our web, iOS, Android, QA, infra and product teams to deliver for our customers and users.

Our team likes to foster a friendly and welcoming work environment where developers can learn and grow. Team members attend conferences and meet-ups, and we regularly run team

workshops to discuss and share new ideas and technologies. This helps us drive innovation and develop an effective basis for future developments.

What We’re Looking For

***Backend (Primary – Senior Level)***

• Design and build scalable, high‑performance RESTful APIs and services using PHP and MySQL

• Own end‑to‑end deployment on AWS (EC2, RDS, Lambda, S3) and maintain CI/CD pipelines

• Drive architectural decisions, enforce best practices, and mentor junior engineers

• Optimize database schemas, write complex SQL queries, and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks

• Implement robust unit, integration, and contract tests; ensure production stability

• Apply security hardening, secure coding standards, and regular vulnerability assessments

• Produce clear technical documentation and participate in code reviews

***Front‑End (Secondary – Competent Level)***

• Develop responsive web interfaces in ReactJS and cross‑platform mobile experiences with React Native

• Translate UI/UX designs into clean, maintainable components using JavaScript/TypeScript

• Write unit and integration tests for front‑end code; debug and resolve UI performance issues

• Contribute to UI architecture decisions (state management, routing, component libraries)

• Collaborate with designers, product managers, and backend teammates in sprint planning and delivery

***Cross‑Functional / General***

• Work closely with DevOps, QA, and product teams to deliver end‑to‑end features

• Stay current with industry trends and propose continuous improvements

• Champion knowledge sharing, code quality, and a culture of ownership across the stack

Required Skills & Experience

Backend:

• 5+ years professional backend development

• 3+ years production‑grade PHP

• Strong MySQL design and optimization

• Hands‑on experience with AWS services and CI/CD

Front‑End:

• 3+ years professional experience with ReactJS and/or React Native

• Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3
