About this Product Technician - Mobility role at M-KOPA

We are looking for a Product Test Technician to own end-to-end product quality control, functional testing, and refurbishment management for M-KOPA Mobility devices and components as we scale our electric mobility division across Kenya.

This role ensures that every product from our OEM partners meets M-KOPA's quality standards before it reaches the market — and throughout its lifecycle. If you're a hands-on technical professional with a sharp eye for detail, strong diagnostic instincts, and experience in electronics QC or product testing, this role is for you.

About Us
M-KOPA Mobility provides accessible, affordable electric mobility solutions across emerging markets. We build and partner with OEMs to deliver reliable products at scale, backed by strong quality systems and a commitment to continuous improvement. You'll sit at the intersection of hardware quality, refurbishment operations, and OEM partner management — in a fast-paced environment where your work directly determines what goes to market and what gets caught before it does.
In this role, you would be responsible for:
Performing incoming, in-process, and outgoing QC checks on devices, components, and accessories per approved SOPs and AQL standards — including visual, dimensional, functional, and safety inspections, with all defects and non-conformities logged in the quality system
Running standardised test plans, calibration procedures, and final functional tests on new sample bikes using approved fixtures and software, with full traceability documentation including unit IDs, batch numbers, firmware versions, and operator stamps
Owning the refurbishment workflow from intake triage through repair, verification testing, and re-release — classifying units by fault category, ensuring correct parts usage and BOM alignment, and verifying units meet as-new standards before dispatch
Consolidating defect trends and failure analysis into weekly OEM feedback packs, supporting corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) with OEM partners, and validating fixes through targeted testing
Maintaining up-to-date SOPs, work instructions, checklists, and test records on Zoho, and ensuring EHS compliance, ESD-safe handling, and proper battery safety protocols throughout
Contributing to device history records and audit readiness, and participating in root-cause analysis using 5-Why, Ishikawa, or similar methodologies
Safeguarding and calibrating test equipment on schedule, tracking critical spares and refurbishment parts with accurate stock movements, and supporting pilot runs, sample evaluations, and first article inspections

This is a full-time, on-site role based in Nairobi, Kenya. You will be reporting to the Hardware Product Manager – Mobility.
Your application should demonstrate:
A Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or a related field — equivalent technical experience will be considered
2+ years of experience in product testing, electronics QC, or repair and refurbishment
Hands-on experience with multimeters, oscilloscopes, battery testers, and test fixtures
Comfort reading schematics, wiring diagrams, and interpreting firmware versions and logs
Proficiency in documenting test results and working with quality or ticketing systems — familiarity with Freshdesk, Zoho CRM, and SafetyCulture report templates is an advantage
Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills with a safety-first mindset and the ability to work to takt time in a fast-paced environment
Nice to have: experience in mobility, consumer electronics, or battery-powered devices
If the above is of interest to you, please apply.
