About this Payroll Clerk role at FlexTal Staffing LLC
The Payroll Clerk is responsible for supporting payroll operations across multiple locations. This position ensures accurate and timely payroll processing, maintains employee payroll records, audits timekeeping data, and provides excellent customer service regarding payroll-related inquiries.
The Payroll Clerk works closely with Human Resources, Operations, and Accounting to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws, company policies, and payroll procedures. Success in this role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, confidentiality, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Process bi-weekly payroll for multiple locations.
- Ensure payroll transactions are entered accurately and completed within established deadlines.
- Update employee pay rates, position changes, transfers, bonuses, deductions, and other payroll changes.
- Process payroll transactions related to new hires, terminations, and employee status changes.
- Maintain payroll records, employee earnings information, tax forms, direct deposit authorizations, and related documentation.
- Assist with payroll corrections, off-cycle payments, final paychecks, and retroactive adjustments.
- Respond to employee and manager inquiries regarding pay, deductions, taxes, and timekeeping.
- Support payroll withholdings, including garnishments, benefits, retirement contributions, and other deductions.
- Monitor compliance with applicable federal, state, and local wage and hour regulations.
- Assist with year-end payroll activities, including tax forms and reporting.
- Generate payroll reports for management, accounting, and other internal stakeholders.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of employee and payroll information.
- Collaborate with Human Resources and other departments to resolve payroll discrepancies and ensure accurate employee records.
- Assist with payroll audits and other special projects as assigned.
Requirements
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years of payroll processing experience required.
- Experience processing payroll for multiple locations and/or multiple states is preferred.
- Experience using payroll and timekeeping systems is required.
- Experience with UKG or similar payroll software is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of payroll processes and wage and hour regulations.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Strong customer service and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
