Job Description:

GENERAL PURPOSE:

This is a part-time position. Under general supervision, a journeyman-level painter performs skilled sign painting activities in the production and repair of signs of metal and other materials safely, efficiently and within budget. This is a swing shift position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Read job orders and inspect work pieces to determine work procedures and materials required Prepares new signs, existing signs, sign cabinets, and sign lettering for painting
  • Select and mix ingredients to prepare coating substances according to specifications, using paddles or mechanical mixers
  • Apply coatings, such as paint, faux finishes, to protect or decorate work piece surfaces, using spray guns, pens, or brushes
  • Maintain production schedules and manage time to complete paint related tasks
  • Examine finished surfaces of work pieces to verify conformance to specifications; then retouch any defective area Loads and unloads signs
  • Clean and maintain work area to provide a safe and organized work environment Work safely to prevent on the job injuries following all safety regulations

MARGINAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cleans and maintains equipment
  • Delivers signs to Installation crew
  • Performs other functions as necessary or as assigned

TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS:

A High School Diploma or GED and two or more years of relevant experience involving demonstrated abilities in painting, including mixing and applying paints, reading blueprints and work orders; or any combination of training, education and experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills.

  • Knowledge involving mixing and spraying paints and color theory is required
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and coordinate multiple work activities to meet critical deadlines, as well as working independently
  • Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of individuals in person on telephone
  • Ability to operate computer, telephone, and other office equipment
  • Strong math skills and the ability to read, interpret and understand blueprints and specifications
  • Strong work ethic with an enthusiastic, positive attitude, and the highest level of integrity
  • Maintain regular and timely attendance
  • Valid Driver’s License

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: stand for long periods of time; use computer to enter data, use telephone to converse with customers, staff, and other departments; perform repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement. The employee is regularly required to: talk, feel the attributes of objects, grasp, push, and reach with arms or hands. Specific vision abilities include: clarity of vision at 20 inches or less; ability to adjust eye to bring an object into sharp focus. The Employee must have ability to climb, crawl, bend, lift 50 pounds and operate heavy equipment.
