Packhouse Assistant Manager

Job Overview

Our client is looking for an experienced Packhouse Assistant Manager to support the day-to-day management and operational performance of a busy fresh produce packhouse.

This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone with strong experience across production, quality management and packhouse operations, who understands the importance of food safety, efficiency and consistent product quality.

The successful candidate will work closely with Production, Logistics and Commercial teams to ensure packing operations run efficiently, customer requirements are met, and the highest standards of quality and food safety are maintained.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the day-to-day management and operations of the Packhouse.
  • Plan and coordinate packing activities in line with customer requirements and demand.
  • Maintain high standards of product quality and food safety, ensuring compliance with HACCP and Global G.A.P. requirements.
  • Lead, manage and develop Packhouse and Dispatch Supervisors and their respective teams.
  • Manage packaging materials and ensure uninterrupted Packhouse operations.
  • Monitor and drive productivity, operational efficiency and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety standards, company policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with Production, Logistics and Commercial teams to optimise operational efficiency.
  • Support the delivery of exceptional customer service through effective planning, communication and execution.

Requirements

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in Agriculture or a related field.
  • Minimum 3–5 years' experience in Assistant Packhouse Management.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience within a packhouse environment, preferably within the fresh produce industry.
  • Proven experience in both production and quality management.
  • Strong practical knowledge of quality management systems, HACCP and Global G.A.P.
  • Strong leadership and people-management skills, with the ability to manage and develop teams.
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong computer literacy, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Own reliable vehicle.
