Job Description: Oracle Database Administrator (L3) – Windows & SE2 Specialist
Position Title: Oracle DBA - L3
Department: India IT – Database Administration
Location: India

Position Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Oracle Database Administrator (L3) with 5–7 years of hands-on experience specializing in Oracle Database environments running natively on Windows Server platforms (2016 through 2025).

The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in managing Oracle Standard Edition 2 (SE2) environments (12c/19c), navigating Windows OS-specific architecture (threads, services, and memory allocation), and maintaining high availability without relying on Enterprise-only features. You will play a pivotal role in maintaining daily operational stability, executing infrastructure migrations, and creating structured SOPs to delegate routine monitoring tasks to NOC teams.

Key Responsibilities
Windows & System Administration
• Install, configure, patch, and manage standalone Oracle 19c databases natively on Windows Server platforms.
• Perform OS-level database administration on Windows, including Windows Service management (net stop/start), Windows Registry configuration, and thread-level session troubleshooting using native utilities (orakill).
• Manage memory allocation (SGA and PGA) within the single-process oracle.exe Windows memory boundary to prevent pagefile swapping and ORA-04030 errors.

Core Database Operations & SE2 Optimization
• Administer databases within Standard Edition 2 (SE2) architecture, leveraging CDB/PDB multitenant models while working within SE2 hardware and CPU limits.
• Perform routine database maintenance: user management, tablespace/datafile growth forecasting, schema management, and security auditing.
• Execute Release Update (RU) patching and database upgrades on Windows environments with minimal operational downtime.
• Execute database migrations, refreshes, and Data Pump (EXPDP/IMPDP) exports/imports across Windows hosts.

Monitoring, Performance Tuning & Documentation
• Perform performance analysis, wait-event tracking, and SQL tuning in SE2 environments using Statspack, V$ performance views, and enterprise APM tools (e.g., SolarWinds DPA / SAM) rather than Enterprise AWR/ADDM packs.
• Author clear, standardized Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and step-by-step runbooks to allow NOC/L1 teams to handle daily backup checks and baseline health monitoring.
• Manage production incidents, blocking sessions, lock escalations, and out-of-space conditions via Jira ticket workflows.

Backup, Recovery & Disaster Recovery
• Manage database backup, restore, and point-in-time recovery strategies using RMAN.
• Integrate Oracle backup processes with enterprise media managers and third-party backup solutions (e.g., Veeam, Cohesity).
• Maintain Disaster Recovery (DR) readiness and standby databases compatible with Standard Edition architectures.

Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications

Required Technical Skills
• Operating Systems: Strong, proven expertise administering Oracle databases on Windows Server (2016 / 2019 / 2022 / 2025).
• Oracle Database Versions: Hands-on experience with Oracle 19c architecture (CDB/PDB).
• Editions: Demonstrated understanding of Standard Edition 2 (SE2) license rules, CPU limits, and feature constraints.
• Tools & Utilities: RMAN, Data Pump (EXPDP/IMPDP), orakill, SQL Developer and Windows Services.msc.
• Monitoring & Tuning: Experience performing wait-event tuning using Statspack, V$ views, or external monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds/DPA).
• Backup Integrations: Experience managing RMAN backups integrated with application-aware backup agents (e.g., Veeam, Cohesity).

Soft Skills & Documentation Focus
• Strong SOP and technical documentation culture—ability to turn complex tasks into standard runbooks for operational handoff.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and incident management skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for stakeholder management.

Preferred / Plus
• Experience migrating Oracle databases across Windows Server OS versions (e.g., 2016 to 2025).
• Experience or familiarity with cloud infrastructure platforms (Azure VM / AWS RDS / EC2).
• Bachelor’s Degree (BE/B.Tech) in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
