Role Description:


Shape the Future of Maritime Training Operations


The Operations Coordinator provides planning, coordination, and administrative support for maritime and joint collective training activities conducted by the Navy Fleet Battle Lab. Working collaboratively with Fleet, supporting and participating units, Joint stakeholders, allied partners, and external agencies, the role contributes to the successful design, preparation, execution, and review of complex training exercises. 


The position is responsible for coordinating exercise requirements, managing operational documentation, facilitating stakeholder engagement, and ensuring activities are delivered in accordance with training objectives, schedules, and security requirements. 


This role requires a highly organised and proactive professional with strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.


This full-time position is based at Fleet Headquarters, HMAS Kuttabul, NSW.

Day to Day Tasks include:

  • Develop and maintain exercise documentation and operational products.
  • Coordinate exercise planning, preparation, execution, and post-activity requirements.
  • Liaise with Fleet units, Joint stakeholders, allied partners, and support agencies.
  • Manage exercise schedules, battle rhythms, and stakeholder communications.
  • Coordinate participant access to facilities, IT systems, and communications networks.
  • Support the design and delivery of maritime and joint training activities.
  • Maintain exercise repositories, records, and lessons learned databases.
  • Ensure security, governance, and compliance requirements are met throughout exercise activities.
  • Coordinate with administration, logistics, and communications teams to support successful exercise execution.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and enhanced training outcomes.

Essential Requirements:

  • Active TSPV Security Clearance.
  • Demonstrated experience in military operations, planning, training, or exercise coordination environments.
  • Experience using military planning, operations, and Defence IT systems.
  • Strong understanding of maritime operations and operational planning processes.
  • Deep understanding of operational art and the ability to translate operational objectives into realistic and effective training environments.
  • Advanced leadership, coordination, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across all organisational levels.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within small, high-performing teams.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including data analysis, reporting, and document production.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and perform effectively under time pressures, high workloads, and changing operational requirements.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required by the Commonwealth.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience across maritime, joint, or multi-domain operational environments.
  • Multi-platform operational experience.
  • Experience supporting Fleet, Joint, Combined, or Allied exercises.
  • Distributed Mission Training (DMT) experience.
  • Experience developing exercise architectures, scenarios, training events, or simulation-based training environments.
  • Understanding of Australian Defence Force and Allied security frameworks and sensitivities.
  • Experience managing exercise documentation repositories and lessons learned processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement of training and operational processes.

Required Security Clearance Level: Top Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV)
Location: Fleet Headquarters, HMAS Kuttabul, NSW
Weekly Hours: 40 Hours (Monday-Friday) Onsite
