About this Network & Security Administrator role at Ohalo
Position: Network & Security Administrator
Location: South San Francisco, CA (supports Watsonville and Aptos sites)
Type: Full-time
About the Role
Ohalo runs on a lean, hands-on IT team, and our network is the backbone that keeps offices, labs, and field sites connected. We're looking for a Network and Security Administrator to own our day-to-day network infrastructure while also managing device security, access control, and security awareness programs across the company. This role is primarily focused on building and maintaining a reliable, well-documented network, with security as a close second responsibility. You'll work directly with the IT Manager on architecture decisions as Ohalo adds new sites, equipment, and integrations.
What You'll Do
- Design, deploy, and maintain our Ubiquiti UniFi network infrastructure — switches, access points, gateways, UniFi Access (door control), and UniFi Protect (video) — across all sites
- Manage WAN connectivity, wireless and wired networking, and core networking protocols (DHCP, DNS, VLANs, routing, VPN) to keep every site online and performing well
- Administer Hexnode UEM (MDM) for company devices, including enrollment, policy enforcement, patching, and remote wipe
- Familiarity with Google Workspace administration — users, groups, and security settings
- Own network- and device-related IT documentation: policies, SOPs, and configuration records
- Automate recurring IT and network workflows (provisioning, alerting, ticketing) and evaluate AI-assisted tools to reduce manual work
- Troubleshoot connectivity and hardware issues across office, lab, and field environments
- Administer the KnowBe4 security awareness program — phishing simulations, training campaigns, and reporting
- Support network segmentation, access controls, and endpoint hardening as part of Ohalo's broader security posture
- Maintain security-relevant documentation and assist with audit evidence gathering as compliance needs grow
- Track work and collaborate using Notion, Jira, and Slack — documentation, ticketing, and team communication
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in network administration, IT infrastructure, or a closely related role
- Hands-on experience with the Ubiquiti UniFi ecosystem (UniFi Network, Access, Protect) or comparable enterprise networking hardware
- Solid understanding of WAN technologies, wireless/wired networking, and core networking protocols (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VLAN, VPN)
- Experience administering MDM/UEM platforms (Hexnode or similar) and Google Workspace
- Comfortable creating and maintaining SOPs, IT policies, and process documentation
- Experience with workflow automation, and interest in applying AI tools to streamline IT operations
- Familiarity with Notion, Jira, and Slack for documentation and team collaboration
- Working knowledge of security fundamentals — access controls, security awareness training (e.g., KnowBe4), and basic network hardening
- Strong troubleshooting skills and comfort working independently in a lean IT environment
- Clear communicator who can support non-technical staff across lab, field, and office environments
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting hybrid environments that span office, lab, and field/remote sites
- Networking or security certifications (Network+, CCNA, Security+, or similar)
- Scripting or no-code automation experience (Python, Bash, Zapier, or similar) for network and IT workflows
- Exposure to compliance frameworks relevant to biotech or ag-tech (SOC 2, data privacy)
The anticipated base pay range for this role is $125,000 - $140,000 per year for our South San Francisco location. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
