The Necropsy Technician I assists with the preparation and in performing all necropsy functions in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and company regulations. They will also provide support in histology processes striving to sustain the highest quality results.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Prepare for upcoming studies or projects                                    
  • Necropsy - tissue identification; dissection according to SOP
  • Conduct organ weights
  • Electronic data entry with gross lesion description
  • Animal euthanasia
  • Trimming - tissue identification; trimming per SOP and NIEHS guidelines
  • Embedding - per SOP; use of tissue processors
  • Data documentation and QC per GLP guidelines
  • Ability to train and work on cross-department tasks relating to in vivo toxicology and histology

Additional Responsibilities

  • Bag and store tissues
  • Tissue Change-outs
  • Work in a team environment with a professional and positive attitude
  • Other duties as needed

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

Education:

  • H.S. diploma or equivalent
  • B.S. degree in Biology or related field

Experience:

  • ≥ 3 years in a GLP laboratory facility
  • ≥ 1 year in a GLP laboratory facility

Skills:

  • Experience with animal tissue
  • Good organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Provanits (or other electronic data recording programs)
  • AALAS or ASCP certifications ( i.e. LAT or HT)

Working Environment

  • Primarily laboratory/animal facility (respirator, safety glasses, lab coat, shoe covers, head cover, and gloves, as needed)
  • Occasional office work
  • Occasional weekend, holiday, and evening work required

 

 

*This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience.  The salary range will adjust along with the level of the role to match the person’s relevant experience and/or education level.
