About this Media Studies Tutor role at The New School
The MA, Media Studies program is hiring tutor specialists who can help peers students in production courses learn skills related to software and hardware supported in media practices courses. Tutors are expected to support students in one of the following areas:
1) Audio Tutor specialists to help students with audio hardware/gear (field recorders, microphones, etc), Pro Tools, and Adobe Audition.
2) Video Post-production Tutor specialists to help with Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve.
3) Design Tutor specialists (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat)
4) Coding/Programming Tutor specialist to help students with JavaScript. P5js, Python, and/or Jquery
5) Camera Tutor to help students with functions of Sony Alpha series, Sony FS5, and other available digital cinema cameras.
These positions are open to MA and MFA students with relevant expertise and qualifications.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Tutors are expected to be on time, prepared and ready to work with their tutor during the appointment session.
Tutors will not do the work for students, but will offer demos, instruction, and show students how they can correct errors on their own.
Tutors will offer constructive feedback and encouragement to students to help complete their assignment.
Tutors will help students understand their assignment and improve their technical skills.
Tutors will explain key concepts and show students ways to learn the material on their own. This will help students improve on their assignments when working independently.
Tutors will share appropriate resources that can help students continue to improve their skills.
Tutors will direct students to see their faculty instructor for clarification of project assignments, learning outcomes and course feedback.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Current student in good standing at The New School.
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Expertise in the specified tutoring areas
Ability to work well with others
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prior experience with tutoring or teaching
WORK MODE
Hybrid/Split - Employees hired for this position have regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (ex 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely. #LI-DNI
Hourly Rate: $29.20
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between SENS-UAW, Local 7902 and the University

Responsibilities:
