Why we need you
We’re building experiences that wow our customers – and that starts with bold, curious people who want to do work that matters.
If you’re hungry to grow, excited by impact and ready for a challenge that will supercharge your career, this could be your moment.
As our Manager Software Engineering, you’ll play a key part in establishing and owning a central DevOps and platform engineering practice getting hands-on with owning continuous integration and delivery, setting the standards teams build on, and leading the design and build-out of our Kubernetes platform both on-premise and on Azure cloud. You’ll work hand-in-hand with our Department Head and the development teams to give a mature platform the elastic, automated, container-native capabilities we need to launch faster, scale on demand, and expand into new markets. Your drive and ideas will help us move faster, improve smarter, and stay ahead of the game.
What you’ll do
You’ll take ownership of work that gives us our competitive edge, including:
Own CI/CD and platform standards
Design, build and own central CI/CD pipelines, delivering consistent, governed, self-service delivery across the estate.
Standardise build, test, release and rollback patterns, including blue-green and canary deployments, so every team ships safely and fast.
Codify infrastructure and configuration as code, and embed automated quality, security and compliance gates into the pipeline.
Establish observability, monitoring and alerting as first-class parts of the platform, not afterthoughts.
Build and run Kubernetes on-prem and Azure
Lead the design and build-out of new Kubernetes infrastructure on-premise, and the option to extend or migrate workloads to Azure cloud (AKS).
Containerise existing workloads and bring them onto a modern, automated container platform.
Apply sound architecture patterns at scale, keeping transactional data outside the cluster, placing cache and config services appropriately, and offloading TLS at the edge.
Choose virtualisation and infrastructure approaches that maximise performance and avoid unnecessary overhead.
Deliver automatic horizontal scale-up and scale-down, so capacity follows demand without manual intervention.
Prove it properly: lab → PoC → limited production → migration, validating network path, throughput, failover and debuggability at each gate.
Lead, align and enable
Act as the platform owner and technical authority for DevOps practice across the estate.
Partner with development, data and infrastructure teams to align toolchains and remove deployment toil.
Mentor engineers and raise automation maturity across teams.
Help shape platform decisions on streaming, caching, data tiering for scale, and build-vs-buy.
This list covers your core responsibilities – with plenty of room to stretch, explore and take on new challenges as we grow.
What you’ll bring
You’re someone who brings:
Clear, confident communication (written and verbal), and the ability to breakdown complex ideas
A collaborative mindset, working smoothly with cross‑functional teams to hit shared goals
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects without dropping the ball
Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to high‑quality work
Adaptability – you stay sharp, productive and positive in fast‑moving environments
Deep, hands-on experience designing and owning end-to-end pipelines (e.g. Azure DevOps, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins or similar), including blue-green/canary deployment strategies.
Strong production experience building and operating Kubernetes both on-premise (on your own hardware) and on a managed cloud service, ideally Azure AKS. You can stand up a cluster from scratch and run it at scale.
Docker, Helm, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible, ARM/Bicep or equivalent).
Solid command of Azure, networking, AKS, identity, and cost-aware architecture.
Comfortable across both Linux and Windows Server environments.
Working knowledge of relational databases, in-memory caches and event streaming in production, and the judgement to keep transactional data outside the cluster.
Load balancing, TLS termination/offload, firewalls and network segmentation, enough to design a cluster that sits correctly behind enterprise edge components.
Prometheus, Grafana, ELK or equivalent monitoring, logging and alerting stacks.
You can set platform standards, influence development teams, and make a clear, pragmatic case for change at scale.
Desirable skills you’ve got up your sleeve
It would be great if you also have some the following skills:
In-depth knowledge of sports betting markets, including odds calculation, betting types and market trends
Previous experience in the online gaming or casino industry, with a strong understanding of player behaviour and industry regulations
Familiarity with gambling regulations and compliance requirements in various jurisdictions, ensuring adherence to legal standards
Experience in developing and executing customer retention strategies
CKA / CKAD or equivalent Kubernetes certification.
Experience containerising legacy web and application workloads.
Experience with enterprise virtualisation platforms.
Regulated, high-availability or high-throughput environments (gaming, fintech, payments).
Service mesh, GitOps (ArgoCD/Flux) and policy-as-code.
