The Role
 

This role reports to the Head of Core Value Streams within Enterprise Tech (ET). You’ll lead software development and integrations and set the strategic direction for software engineering in ET. Leads build capability, foster technical excellence, and support career growth across the team.


Key responsibilities

  • Scope of delivery & technical leadership: lead the delivery and maintenance of applications and integrations supporting Group Functions and Business Units, providing hands-on technical leadership where needed (POCs, technical spikes, advisory work).
     
  • Ways of working, standards & quality: define and lead modern SDLC practices (code review, CI/CD, release/change management) and set engineering standards, patterns, and best practices that promote quality, maintainability, and scalability across Enterprise Tech.
     
  • Operational responsibility: set expectations for production ownership (support/on-call as applicable), reliability, observability, incident management, and continuous improvement, ensuring resilient and well-run platforms.
     
  • Security, architecture & compliance: ensure solutions meet security, architecture, and operational standards, embedding secure-by-design practices and policy compliance into delivery.
     
  • Stakeholder partnership & influence: partner closely with Solution Architecture, InfoSec, Data Engineering, Product Owners, and change teams to shape roadmaps, outcomes, and technical direction.
     
  • People leadership & capability building: manage and grow talent by setting objectives, running performance reviews, coaching and mentoring engineers, and driving upskilling and cross-skilling across teams.
     
  • Inclusive culture & knowledge sharing: foster an inclusive, collaborative environment with psychological safety, and enable knowledge sharing.
     
  • Vendor & partner management: manage SOWs and day-to-day engagement with engineering partners.

Candidate Profile

  • Software engineering experience delivering complex, production-grade solutions.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and raising technical standards.
  • Proven ability to architect, design, build, and run robust solutions.
  • Strong engineering practice across requirements, build, test, DevOps, and deployment.
  • Strong Microsoft stack knowledge (e.g., Angular, .NET Core, SQL Server, serverless).
  • Working knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, GCP, or AWS).
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and translate technical concepts into actionable plans.
  • Experience working in Agile teams across engineering, product, and business.
  • Interest in using AI to improve delivery speed and quality.

Nice to have

  • Insurance or financial services experience.
  • Experience with event-driven architecture.
  • Knowledge of OutSystems.
  • Experience using agentic AI in software delivery.
