About this Lead Product Designer role at New Relic

New Relic · Onsite · Hyderabad, India

We are a global team of innovators and pioneers dedicated to shaping the future of observability. At New Relic, we build an intelligent platform that empowers companies to thrive in an AI-first world by giving them unparalleled insight into their complex systems. As we continue to expand our global footprint, we're looking for passionate people to join our mission. If you're ready to help the world's best companies optimize their digital applications, we invite you to explore a career with us!

Your Opportunity

At New Relic, we provide our customers real-time insights so they can innovate faster. Our software delivers insightful observability tools across different technologies and distributed systems, enabling software engineering teams to quickly identify, understand, and solve issues.

As AI becomes a top strategic priority, we are looking for a Lead Product Designer to join our AI Monitoring team in Hyderabad or Bangalore. This is a career-defining opportunity to own design in an emerging space, shaping a product category that is evolving rapidly. You will work within an engineering-heavy team (16 engineers) to design for "APM for AI," providing end-to-end visibility into the AI stack—from the application layer down to infrastructure. You will tackle complex challenges like visualizing multi-agent flows, making LLM trace data legible, and designing for progressive autonomy in a space where no established design playbook exists.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead End-to-End Design: Serve as the product design lead for AI Monitoring, shaping the product strategy and moving the platform in the right direction through high-autonomy and fast iteration.
  • Design for Complexity: Create information-dense interfaces that make telemetry data—including traces, metrics, logs, and topology maps—legible and actionable for expert users without "dumbing it down".
  • Rapid Prototyping: Move at engineering speed by building functional demos and interactive prototypes in code-adjacent environments (primarily Claude Code, with familiarity of Cursor, v0, Replit) to communicate vision more effectively than static mocks.
  • Solve Novel AI Problems: Define how users build trust in AI-generated insights, surface AI confidence levels, and design human-in-the-loop patterns for agentic workflows.
  • Collaborate and Influence: Co-create with product and engineering partners, proactively managing stakeholder expectations and translating project issues into language they can understand.
  • Apply Systems Thinking: Design and execute product-wide pattern families that ensure consistency across the New Relic platform.
  • Conduct frequent user research: Generative and evaluative interviews with customers to optimize and ensure product market fit.

Your Qualifications

Must-have:

  • Lead-Level Experience: Proven experience operating as a Lead Product Designer, capable of distilling and reframing complex problems and unblocking yourself without constant management intervention.
  • Enterprise B2B Expertise: A background in designing for large-scale enterprise infrastructure or developer tools where you’ve managed thousands of services and millions of data points.
  • AI-Native Fluency: Deep understanding of AI interaction patterns, including concepts like explainability, evals, prompt engineering, and agentic UX.
  • Prototyping Fluency: The ability to "build" using modern AI and code-adjacent tools to go from concept to functional demo quickly.
  • Data Visualization Chops: Demonstrated ability to design for information-dense interfaces such as dashboards, flamegraphs, or topology maps.
  • Adaptability: Comfort operating in high ambiguity and shipping fast to learn, rather than requiring a full, static brief before starting work.
  • User research experience: Proven experience conducting research, from hypothesis and recruitment to interviews and analysis.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP) server calls and distributed tracing.
  • A portfolio that showcases not just screens, but the clear articulation of design rationale, trade-offs, and system-wide thinking.
  • Familiarity with the New Relic platform or similar APM/Observability solutions.
  • Examples of projects created using AI
