Location: Wallingford, Oxfordshire (On-site)
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

At Fugro, we're expanding our laboratory capabilities and investing in the future of our testing facilities, creating an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Technician to join our growing team in Wallingford. Working alongside experienced engineers and technical specialists, you'll help generate high-quality soil and rock testing data that supports critical decisions for clients around the globe. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys practical, detail-focused work and wants to develop a rewarding technical career in a collaborative and innovative environment. Reporting to the Team Leader – Rock Testing, you'll be part of a supportive team where learning, development and continuous improvement are encouraged every day.

Your role and responsibilities:

  • Carry out a range of geotechnical laboratory tests on soil and rock samples, ensuring work is completed safely, accurately and to agreed quality standards.
  • Record, analyse and process test results, maintaining high standards of data quality and integrity.
  • Prepare test materials, equipment and laboratory workspaces, ensuring efficient testing operations and timely project delivery.
  • Support the maintenance, calibration and performance checks of laboratory equipment and testing instrumentation.
  • Work closely with laboratory technicians, engineers and quality teams to deliver reliable data and excellent service to our clients.
  • Identify and raise potential quality, safety or equipment issues while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across the laboratory.
  • Where required and desired, support offshore site investigations, contributing to the collection of geotechnical data in the field.

What you'll need to thrive in this role:

Essential

  • A good standard of education, including GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Maths and Science.
  • Strong attention to detail, with the ability to follow procedures and maintain accurate records.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills, with a collaborative approach to working with colleagues across the laboratory.
  • Strong organisational skills, reliable time management and confidence using Microsoft Excel or similar software.
  • A proactive mindset, willingness to learn and a commitment to working safely and delivering high-quality results.

Desirable

  • Experience working in a laboratory, technical or regulated environment.
  • Further education in Geology, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
