We're looking for a Junior Software Engineer to join our Product & Technology team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone at the beginning of their engineering career who is eager to learn, grow and contribute to products used by customers around the world.

As a Junior Software Engineer, you'll work as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team, helping to design, develop, test and maintain software that delivers real value to our customers. You'll be supported by experienced engineers, receive coaching and feedback, and gain hands-on experience across the software development lifecycle.

Whether your experience comes from university, an apprenticeship, a placement year, personal projects or an early-career role, we're looking for curious problem-solvers who are passionate about technology and excited to build their skills in a modern engineering environment.

What you'll be doing

  • Developing, testing and maintaining software components and services.
  • Contributing to the delivery of customer-facing products and internal platforms.

  • Collaborating with engineers, product teams and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Contributing to team learning, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Growing your technical capability through hands-on experience, mentoring and professional development.

Why join Findmypast?

  • Work on products that help millions of people uncover and preserve their family history.
  • Learn from experienced engineers in a supportive, collaborative environment.
  • Access opportunities for ongoing learning and career development.
  • Be part of a technology team that values curiosity, innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with talented colleagues across product, engineering and data disciplines.
  • Enjoy a flexible, hybrid approach to working.

Requirements

We're interested in your potential as much as your experience. You may be a recent graduate, apprentice or someone beginning your software engineering career.

We're looking for:

  • Exposure to software development through education, personal projects, placements, apprenticeships or professional experience.
  • Knowledge of at least one programming language and the willingness to learn others.
  • Understanding of software development principles and modern engineering practices.
  • Familiarity with source control systems such as Git.
  • Awareness of software testing concepts and quality assurance practices.
  • Understanding of how software applications are built, deployed and supported.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an inquisitive mindset.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
  • A growth mindset with enthusiasm for learning new technologies and ways of working.
  • An appreciation of how technology solutions create value for customers and businesses.

We'd love to hear from you if you are:

  • Curious and eager to learn.
  • Passionate about technology and software development.
  • Motivated to build your engineering career.
  • Comfortable seeking feedback and continuously improving.
  • Excited to work as part of an inclusive and supportive team.

To apply, please submit your CV along with a short cover letter telling us why you're interested in joining Findmypast and what excites you about a career in software engineering.
