We are looking for an experienced and entrepreneurial Founding Engineer to join our early-stage team and play a pivotal role in building our technology platform from the ground up. This is a unique opportunity to work alongside the founding team, influence technical strategy, and create scalable products that solve meaningful customer problems.

As a Founding Engineer, you will take ownership of the backend architecture, design highly reliable systems, and establish engineering best practices. You will be responsible for making critical technology decisions while contributing hands-on to product development. The ideal candidate is passionate about building products from scratch, thrives in fast-paced startup environments, and enjoys solving complex technical challenges.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Python.
• Architect distributed systems, APIs, and microservices capable of supporting rapid product growth.
• Build secure, high-performance backend infrastructure with a strong emphasis on reliability and maintainability.
• Collaborate closely with founders, product managers, and designers to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Define engineering standards, coding guidelines, and development workflows for the team.
• Optimize application performance, database efficiency, and system scalability.
• Develop RESTful APIs and backend integrations with internal and third-party services.
• Implement authentication, authorization, logging, monitoring, and security best practices.
• Troubleshoot production issues and continuously improve platform stability.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to building a strong engineering culture as the company grows.
• Participate in architectural discussions and evaluate emerging technologies to improve development efficiency.
• Drive end-to-end ownership of features from design through deployment and production support.

Required Skills

Must-Have Skills

• Strong expertise in Python for backend application development.
• Extensive experience designing and developing scalable backend systems and APIs.
• Deep understanding of software architecture, object-oriented programming, and design patterns.
• Experience building microservices and distributed systems.
• Strong knowledge of REST APIs and asynchronous programming.
• Expertise in relational and NoSQL databases with database optimization techniques.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Proficiency with Docker, containerization, and deployment pipelines.
• Strong understanding of caching, message queues, and background job processing.
• Experience with version control systems such as Git.
• Solid understanding of system performance, scalability, observability, and security principles.

Good to Have

• Experience with Kubernetes and infrastructure automation.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Exposure to event-driven architectures and messaging platforms.
• Experience working with AI/ML-powered products or data-intensive applications.
• Knowledge of GraphQL, WebSockets, or real-time systems.
• Previous experience as an early engineering hire or in a startup environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 7–14 years of professional software engineering experience with significant backend development expertise.
• Proven experience building production-grade applications from concept to scale.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities with cross-functional teams.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership, and thrive in a fast-moving startup environment.
