Position Summary

The Fabrication Shop Sheet Metal Foreman is responsible for leading and supervising the daily operations of the sheet metal fabrication shop to ensure production schedules, quality standards, and safety expectations are consistently achieved. This role oversees shop personnel, coordinates fabrication activities, and partners with project management, BIM/VDC, and field operations to ensure fabricated ductwork and sheet metal assemblies are produced accurately and delivered on schedule. The Foreman is a hands-on leader who promotes a culture of safety, quality, productivity, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct daily sheet metal fabrication shop operations to meet production schedules, project deadlines, quality standards, and safety requirements.

  • Plan, coordinate, and assign daily work activities, manpower, materials, equipment, and workflow to maximize shop productivity and efficiency.

  • Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, Stratus 3D models, Bills of Material (BOMs), and fabrication documents to ensure accurate fabrication.

  • Oversee the fabrication and assembly of commercial HVAC ductwork, fittings, and other sheet metal assemblies in accordance with project specifications and company quality standards.

  • Verify that fabricated assemblies meet dimensional tolerances, fabrication requirements, and applicable SMACNA standards, project specifications, and quality expectations.

  • Ensure fabricated materials are completed accurately and prepared for timely delivery to project sites.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop fabrication personnel by providing training, coaching, and performance feedback while fostering teamwork and accountability.

  • Enforce all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and fabrication shop best practices to maintain a safe and productive work environment.

  • Conduct daily safety meetings, monitor safe work practices, and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Monitor production metrics and identify opportunities to improve fabrication efficiency by reducing waste, minimizing rework, and eliminating production delays.

  • Coordinate material requirements with purchasing and warehouse personnel to maintain production schedules and minimize downtime.

  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and safe use of fabrication equipment, machinery, and shop tools.

  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, BIM/VDC personnel, and field teams to ensure accurate fabrication, delivery schedules, and project support.

  • Utilize computer systems for project tracking, scheduling, inventory management, document control, and communication.

  • Maintain accurate production records, quality documentation, and shop reporting.

  • Participate in production planning meetings and provide updates regarding manpower, fabrication progress, material status, and production challenges.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support fabrication operations and project success.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training in sheet metal, HVAC, or construction is preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of commercial sheet metal fabrication experience, including supervisory or foreman experience in a fabrication or construction environment.

  • Experience with commercial HVAC ductwork fabrication and off-site prefabrication processes is strongly preferred.

  • Thorough knowledge of commercial sheet metal fabrication techniques, ductwork construction, materials, and applicable industry standards, including SMACNA guidelines.

  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to effectively supervise personnel while maintaining production schedules and quality expectations.

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.

  • Experience using Stratus for fabrication workflows and 3D model navigation preferred.

  • Working knowledge of Vicon CAMduct software required.

  • Ability to read and interpret 3D models, Bills of Material (BOMs), fabrication drawings, and project specifications.

  • Familiarity with fabrication management software, inventory systems, and project tracking tools.

  • Working knowledge of Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, or other BIM/VDC software is preferred.

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to work in a fabrication shop environment for extended periods.

  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to safely operate fabrication equipment, machinery, and hand tools.

  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toed boots.
