The Director, Tax Technology leads the delivery and strategic direction of tax technology initiatives, overseeing project scope, governance, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation across multiple engagements.

This role provides functional and technical leadership on complex tax technology projects, ensuring successful implementation of enterprise-level solutions from requirements analysis through deployment while maintaining high standards of quality, timeliness, and cost control.

The Director acts as a trusted advisor to clients, strengthens client relationships, and provides leadership and mentorship to project teams.

In addition, the Director supports business development efforts, including proposal preparation, client presentations, and identifying new opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities, as They Align to Ryan’s Key Results

Client:

  • Acts as a trusted advisor to clients, overseeing delivery across multiple engagements.
  • Ensures effective project governance, including timelines, budgets, and quality of deliverables.
  • Oversees the design and implementation of tax technology solutions, ensuring alignment with client needs and business objectives.
  • Maintains and strengthens client relationships and contributes to long-term partnerships.
  • Oversees the financial performance of engagements, including forecasting and billing.

Value:

  • Leads the successful delivery of complex tax technology projects and programs.
  • Defines success metrics and ensures consistent tracking and reporting across engagements.
  • Establishes and enforces project governance, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Drives continuous improvement in processes, tools, and delivery models.
  • Contributes to business development activities, including proposal development, client presentations, and identification of growth opportunities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting, tax, information technology, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in tax technology, including implementation of enterprise tax solutions, such as Vertex, Sabrix, and Taxware.
  • Strong understanding of transaction tax processes and integration with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, such as SAP, Oracle, and JD Edwards.
  • Experience leading complex projects and managing client relationships.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
  • Familiarity with software development life cycle (SDLC) methodologies, including Agile, is preferred.

Computer Skills:

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
  • Experience working with ERP systems and tax technology integrations is preferred.
