About this Director of Agency Operations - Farmers Insurance role at Farmers District 40
Director of Agency Operations
The Opportunity
We are a growing, multi-state insurance organization managing approximately $25 million in premium across Michigan and California. We're looking for an experienced operational leader to work directly alongside the Agency Owner and help lead the next stage of our growth.
The Director of Agency Operations will serve as the operational anchor of the organization, overseeing leaders and teams across Sales, Service, Systems, and Recruiting.
This is not an office management role. We're looking for someone who can lead leaders, create accountability, analyze performance, enforce standards, improve execution, and stay steady when the business is under pressure.
What You'll Do
Oversee day-to-day operations across multiple departments and locations
Lead and develop managers and team leaders
Establish performance expectations and hold teams accountable
Lead weekly KPI and performance reviews
Coach managers through performance and employee issues
Monitor sales, service, retention, and overall operational performance
Strengthen communication and handoffs between departments
Ensure established processes and workflows are consistently followed
Identify bottlenecks and opportunities for operational improvement
Help oversee recruiting, training, compliance, and technology adoption
Serve as a key operational point of contact when challenges arise
Partner directly with the Agency Owner to turn business goals into execution
You'll have meaningful authority to coach and discipline employees, improve processes, and make personnel recommendations. The Agency Owner will retain final approval over major hiring, termination, promotion, and organizational decisions.
What We're Looking For
Required:
Proven management and leadership experience
Experience leading 15–30+ employees across multiple teams, departments, or locations
Experience managing managers or team leaders
Sales management and coaching experience
Strong understanding of KPIs and performance management
Experience establishing and enforcing processes and standards
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to navigate difficult conversations and hold people accountable
Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure
Willingness to travel between agency locations
Insurance or Property & Casualty experience is strongly preferred but not required. Multi-location leadership experience is also a plus.
Who You'll Be
Our strongest leaders are hungry, humble, and smart.
You're driven, goal-oriented, and highly accountable without leading with ego. You're analytical, process-driven, decisive, and comfortable having hard conversations.
Most importantly, you know how to be firm without being a bulldozer and collaborative without being a pushover.
What Success Looks Like
Success in this role means stronger managers, greater accountability, better communication between departments, more consistent execution, improved sales and retention performance, and fewer operational bottlenecks.
Ultimately, you'll help build an organization that can continue growing without every decision, problem, and accountability conversation running through the Agency Owner.
Compensation & Travel
Base Salary: $100,000–$125,000 annually.
This position requires regular travel between our Michigan offices in Grand Ledge, Holland, and Wyoming, with periodic travel to our California offices in Long Beach and Culver City.
If you've successfully led teams, developed managers, improved operations, and know how to turn goals into consistent execution, we'd love for you to apply!
