We are seeking a skilled and innovative Concept Design Engineer with 2–7 years of experience in automotive engineering and BIW fixture design. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on expertise in developing fixture concepts for Body-in-White (BIW) applications and proficiency in CATIA V5 and UG NX. The role requires a strong understanding of automotive manufacturing processes, fixture design principles, and the ability to convert engineering requirements into practical, manufacturable design concepts.
The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, and production teams to develop robust fixture solutions that meet quality, safety, cost, and manufacturing requirements.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and design BIW fixtures and tooling concepts for automotive body assembly applications.
- Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and 2D drawings using CATIA V5 and UG NX.
- Interpret engineering specifications, product drawings, GD&T requirements, and vehicle BIW data to develop appropriate fixture concepts.
- Design fixture components such as locating pins, clamps, supports, brackets, bases, grippers, and other tooling elements.
- Develop innovative and cost-effective fixture concepts considering manufacturability, accessibility, ergonomics, and assembly requirements.
- Perform design reviews and identify potential issues related to clearance, accessibility, locating schemes, clamping, and part loading/unloading.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including BIW engineering, manufacturing, production, quality, and tooling teams.
- Ensure fixture designs comply with applicable customer requirements, engineering standards, and manufacturing processes.
- Modify and optimize existing fixture designs based on engineering changes, production feedback, and quality requirements.
- Prepare design documentation, layouts, assembly drawings, and other engineering deliverables as required.
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical inputs for fixture and concept development.
- Support troubleshooting and resolution of design-related issues during fixture development, manufacturing, and tryout stages.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Must-Have Skills
- BIW Fixture Design
- Strong hands-on experience with CATIA V5
- Proficiency in UG NX / Siemens NX
- Good understanding of automotive Body-in-White (BIW) structures and assembly processes.
- Knowledge of fixture design principles, locating and clamping concepts.
- Ability to understand engineering drawings, GD&T, and manufacturing requirements.
- Strong 3D modeling and assembly design capabilities.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
Good-to-Have Skills
- Experience in BIW Fixture and Concept Design.
- Knowledge of automotive body assembly and manufacturing processes.
- Exposure to fixture validation, tryout, and design optimization.
- Understanding of tooling standards and fixture components.
- Experience working with OEMs, Tier-1 automotive suppliers, or tooling organizations.
Experience
2–7 years of relevant experience in BIW fixture design, automotive tooling, or concept design.
Education
Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Production Engineering, or a related discipline.
