Join ALS Coal – Emerald, QLD | Full-time | 12-Hour Rotating Roster
ALS Coal is seeking a reliable and safety-focused Coal Quality Tester to join our team at the Emerald Coal site. Working within a high-volume operational environment, you will support coal sampling, sample preparation, and laboratory testing activities that ensure accurate and timely results for our customers.
This is a full-time position working a 12-hour rotating roster, including day and night shifts, weekends, and public holidays as part of the roster cycle.
About the Role:
You will play a key role in the coal testing process, from sample collection through to laboratory analysis and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct coal sampling in line with ALS and NATA procedures
Sample preparation including crushing, splitting, drying and processing
Laboratory testing for moisture, ash, sulphur, calorific value and other routine analyses
Equipment operation and basic maintenance
Data entry and result recording in LIMS
HSE compliance including JSA completion, PPE use and hazard reporting
Quality assurance aligned with NATA accreditation and ALS systems
What We’re Looking For:
A strong commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.
High attention to detail, reliable work ethic and strong organisational skills.
Ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
Previous lab or coal industry experience (advantageous, not essential)
Willingness to work rostered shifts
Excellent communication and reliability.
Current driver’s licence.
Shift Structure
12‑hour rotating roster (day and night shifts)
Includes weekends and public holidays as part of rotation
Overtime opportunities may be available depending on operational demand
Shift handover processes must be followed to maintain continuity and sample integrity
