We’re looking for a reliable, hands‑on Catering Assistant who will also cover Kitchen Porter duties to help our staff canteen run smoothly, safely and to a high standard. You’ll support food preparation and service, maintain excellent hygiene, and keep the back‑of‑house clean, organised, and compliant with Irish/EU food safety law.

What you'll be doing:

  • Dishwashing/pot washing: Collect, wash, sanitise and store crockery, cutlery, utensils, pots and pans. Ensure constant availability during service.

  • Cleaning & hygiene: Sweep/mop floors; clean/sanitise prep areas, sinks, equipment, fridges/freezers; complete daily/weekly deep cleans to schedule.

  • Deliveries & storage: Receive, check, date‑label and store deliveries; maintain first-in-first out (FIFO) stock rotation and correct temperature controls.

  • Allergen controls: Follow the canteen’s allergen procedures and ensure accurate written allergen information is available at point of presentation/sale for all non‑prepacked items.

  • Waste & recycling: Segregate, remove, and store waste safely; maintain clean bin yards and back‑of‑house areas.

  • Records & checks: Complete HACCP-related checks and logs (temps, cleaning, deliveries, corrective actions) as directed.

  • Teamwork & safety: Use chemicals safely as trained; escalate maintenance issues; support broader catering tasks as needed.

The essential skills you will have when you apply:

  • HACCP / Food Safety Training: Minimum: FSAI-aligned Food Safety training appropriate to duties (e.g., Level 1 within the first month; Level 2 if preparing/handling high‑risk foods).

  • Practical kitchen experience in a canteen, café, hospitality, healthcare or similar back‑of‑house environment.

  • Allergen awareness and ability to follow written allergen procedures for non‑prepacked food.

  • Strong hygiene standards, attention to detail, and ability to work safely to SOPs/HACCP checks.

  • Physical capability to stand for shifts, lift/move items, and handle a fast-paced service.

  • Desirable: Manual Handling certificate; Basic First Aid; experience with temperature monitoring systems.

We operate a documented Food Safety Management System based on HACCP and maintain written allergen information for all non‑prepacked foods served. Successful candidates must complete induction training and participate in routine HACCP checks/records.
