Great American Insurance Group's Public Sector Division provides customized insurance programs that meet the unique risk management needs of local, county and state governments, education organizations and special service districts, housing departments or other entities designed to serve the general public. The targeted classes within these public entities include municipalities, public schools, community colleges and counties.

Great American offers coverage in the reinsurance and excess insurance markets through Pools, Trusts, Joint Powers Authorities, Reciprocals, Mutuals, Captives and Individual Risks in the public entity space.​​​

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Assists in the review and evaluation of applications, ensuring they align with Company policies and underwriting guidelines.

  • Works closely with underwriters and brokers/agents to gather additional information and clarify application details.

  • Reviews relevant data, including financial statements, property valuations, and loss histories to assist with risk assessment.

  • Assists in maintaining underwriting files, ensuring all documents and approvals are properly filed.

  • Compiles reports on risk evaluations, policy statuses, and portfolio performance for underwriters and management.

  • May underwrite new and renewal policy transactions within written authority.

    • May enter policy information on an assigned product, territory and / or agency in accordance with template rules.

    • Proofs / audits policy information on an assigned product, territory, and/or agency(ies).

    • Assists with reviewing premium and loss data on an individual account as part of renewal underwriting, change underwriting, or mid-term underwriting.

  • Orders and reviews required reports, endorsement requests, service requests, and general correspondence.

  • Research and may respond to questions from brokers/agents.

  • Provides information to Processing that is needed to issue policies and endorsements on a timely basis. May issue, process or code transactions.

  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Job Requirements

Education: Associates Degree in Business, Finance, or a related field or equivalent experience.

Scope of Job/Qualifications: Performs work under close supervision and technical direction. Performs standard duties utilizing often-complex processes/procedures on assignments of a routine nature. Possesses procedural knowledge and skills that enable task accomplishment. Demonstrates working knowledge of coverage and forms, provisions for policies written within the assigned territory/unit, workflow and systems.  Foundational written and verbal skills. Works within standard, established authority limits.

    $21.92 -$30.00
