Responsibilities / Tasks

The Associate Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for designing and developing innovative mechanical solutions for advanced milk harvesting technologies used in digital agriculture. This role involves collaborating with global engineering teams to develop reliable, efficient, and sustainable products that support automation, digitalization, and smart milking solutions. By contributing to new product development and continuous product improvement, the position enhances machine reliability, manufacturing efficiency, and animal welfare while leveraging engineering expertise, innovation, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver industry-leading solutions.

Your tasks

  • Design, develop, and validate mechanical components, assemblies, and complete system solutions for dairy farming applications, including advanced milk harvesting technologies.

  • Create and maintain 3D CAD models and engineering documentation using Siemens NX within a Teamcenter environment, ensuring compliance with ISO drawing standards.

  • Support the planning, execution, operation, and presentation of laboratory and field tests to validate product performance and reliability.

  • Apply simulation techniques, including structural analysis and fluid flow evaluation, to support product design and optimization activities.

  • Utilize knowledge of manufacturing processes to ensure design for manufacturability, assembly efficiency, and product quality.

  • Interface with enterprise systems such as SAP and maintain accurate engineering and product-related data.

  • Evaluate material selection and assess the impact of chemical interactions on product performance and durability.

  • Collaborate with global engineering teams and cross-functional departments including Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Service, and Quality to achieve project objectives.

  • Support engineering activities across international locations, including Germany, Canada, USA, and New Zealand, while working effectively in a multicultural environment.

  • Contribute to innovation initiatives by following established engineering procedures, proposing product and process improvements, and supporting continuous development activities.

  • Demonstrate independent problem-solving, flexibility in managing assigned project goals, and the ability to present technical findings and recommendations to the engineering team.

  • Provide ideas, alternatives, and recommendations that support product strategy, project direction, and future development within Farm Technologies.

Your Profile / Qualifications

Your profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline such as Electromechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.

  • 2–5 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering or product development.

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling using Siemens NX is preferred; experience with other 3D CAD software is also considered.

  • Experience in prototyping, tolerance stack-up analysis, GD&T application, and design for manufacturability principles.

  • Experience working with Microsoft Office applications for technical documentation, reporting, and collaboration.

  • Familiarity with SAP and PLM systems is desirable.

  • Good understanding of relevant standards, directives, and machinery regulations (e.g., CE marking, ISO machinery standards).

  • Experience with FEM analysis, simulation tools, and structured test validation methods is beneficial.

  • Self-motivated and structured working style with strong communication skills and collaborative mindset.

  • Strong interest in innovative technologies combined with practical engineering judgement.

  • Good written and spoken English is essential; knowledge of German is considered beneficial.

  • Basic knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems is advantageous.
