What to know about this role

  • We are a fully remote organization with team members in over 20 states within the US. Work from the comfort of your home, a local coffee shop, or wherever in the U.S. brings you joy! However, please note that you MUST live in one of the following states to be considered for this role:
    • Alabama, Colorado, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, or Wisconsin! 
  • We are unable to consider candidates who require an H1-B sponsorship at this time.
  • The salary range for this position is: $62,000 to $65,000 based upon experience.

 

The impact of this role

AMA’s phenomenal Professional Chapters are comprised of marketing practitioners at all stages of their careers. This role is responsible for strengthening chapter engagement, supporting volunteer leadership, overseeing chapter operations, and fostering collaboration between AMA staff and Professional Chapters. This role will maintain the relationship between AMA and its Professional Chapters and its leadership by overseeing chapter operations, supporting volunteer leaders, organizing community-driven events, and cultivating a “sense of place” amongst our community of marketers.

 

What you’ll be doing 

  • Chapter Operations + Support
    • Monitors and supports the overall health and operations of the AMA’s Professional Chapters, ensuring volunteer leaders have the information and resources needed to serve their local communities in alignment with the AMA’s mission and vision and in compliance with federal and state laws and regulations.
    • Serves as the first point of contact for Professional Chapter leaders by providing timely assistance, resolving operational issues, and connecting volunteers with appropriate AMA resources.
    • Creates and maintains chapter communications, newsletters, training materials, operational guides, and other resources that enable volunteer leaders to successfully fulfill their roles.
    • Manages the Chapter Excellence Awards (CEA) and Ric Sweeney Chapter Volunteer of the Year Award in partnership with PCC representatives, including maintaining award processes, developing communications, coordinating submissions and judging, analyzing results, and managing recognition activities.
    • Supports PCC meeting planning and special events, including scheduling, logistics, accommodations, meeting materials, note-taking, and follow-up communications with guidance from the Senior Director, Membership.
    • Monitors chapter performance and organizational health by maintaining internal and external data, preparing reports, and partnering with the Professional Chapters Council (PCC) to support all chapters, with particular attention to those that do not meet minimum operating standards or require additional guidance.
  • Volunteer Leadership + Engagement
    • Develops and implements initiatives that strengthen volunteer engagement, collaboration, leadership development, and knowledge sharing across the Professional Chapter community.
    • Facilitates effective communication and collaboration between AMA staff and volunteer leaders, fostering trust, transparency, and mutual understanding.
    • Coordinates volunteer onboarding, leadership training, Leadership Labs, and other learning opportunities in partnership with the PCC and internal AMA teams, including Marketing, Professional Development, and Alliances.
  • Chapter Growth + Process Improvement
    • Identifies and implements improvements to chapter programs, policies, and operational processes to enhance the volunteer experience and organizational effectiveness.
    • Partners with the Senior Director, Membership and cross-functional teams to identify and implement opportunities that strengthen member engagement, support membership growth and retention, and leverage Professional Chapters as a key touchpoint in the AMA member experience, evolving the role to meet the changing needs of the association and its members.
    • Responds to chapter inquiries and provides guidance on chapter operations, development, growth, and revitalization in collaboration with the PCC.
    • Builds and maintains strong relationships with volunteer leaders and community stakeholders by supporting the PCC, administering volunteer recognition programs, and coordinating appreciation initiatives.



What you bring to the table

  • 2+ years working in a non-profit organization or in volunteer management
  • 3-5 years working in customer service
  • Proficiency in MS Office (including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) 
  • Proficiency in Google Suite (including Docs and Sheets)
  • Effective relationship builder with commitment to cultivating trust and understanding
  • Clear and inclusive written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized and resourceful, with a keen eye for detail and connecting the dots
  • A self-starter spirit with an eagerness to keep learning

 

What you may also have

  • Competence in database management (Salesforce) 
  • Competence in managing website content via CMS (such as WordPress or Payload)

 

What to expect from the interview process

  • 30-minute phone interview with a member of AMA’s People and Culture team 
  • Virtual Interview with the hiring manager and key stakeholders you’ll be working closely with
