We are seeking a New York City-based  Area Director of Operations to lead performance and operational excellence across one of  our most established markets while helping shape how we scale our people, standards, and business for the future.

 

About the Role:

As an Area Director of Operations in NYC, you will lead the performance, operational excellence, and continued growth in a multi-unit market. Working closely with property leaders, you will provide the leadership support, strategic direction, and commercial focus needed to drive exceptional hospitality and strong business results. You will balance multi-unit strategy with a deep understanding of each property using data, regular property visits, and close partnership with your teams to identify opportunities, solve challenges, and continuously raise the bar across the organization. 

What You’ll Do:

Area Leadership & Strategic Direction

  • Lead operational performance across multiple properties, with a clear understanding of each market, revenue stream, and operating model.
  • Translate company strategy into clear priorities, goals, and accountability for property leadership teams.
  • Coach and support property leaders through complex operational, commercial, financial, and people challenges.
  • Lead regular business reviews, using KPIs and financial performance to identify opportunities and drive action.
  • Maintain a consistent presence across properties through regular visits, leadership meetings, and operational reviews.
  • Identify trends and shared challenges across properties and implement scalable solutions and best practices.
  • Lead operational execution through periods of growth, change, openings, and business transitions.
  • Partner with centralized teams to resolve issues, allocate resources, and strengthen the overall operating model.

 

Leadership, Talent & Culture

  • Build a strong pipeline of operational leaders through coaching, development, and succession planning.
  • Develop property leadership teams with a focus on financial ownership, commercial acumen, operational excellence, and people leadership.
  • Establish a culture of accountability, feedback, and continuous improvement across the market.
  • Partner with property leaders on organizational design, workforce planning, critical hiring, and career pathways and development opportunities.
  • Ensure new leaders and key hires have clear onboarding, expectations, and development plans.

Commercial Strategy & Business Growth

  • Partner with Commercial leadership and property teams to drive revenue across membership, meetings & events, food & beverage, and other business lines.
  • Hold property leadership accountable for key revenue drivers including sales pipeline, occupancy, pricing, event conversion, and post-contract revenue.
  • Identify opportunities to grow total property revenue through cross-functional commercial and operational initiatives.
  • Partner  with Commercial team on pricing, programming, event strategy, and opportunities to maximize revenue and performance.
  • Balance revenue growth with operational capacity, profitability, and the client experience.

 

Financial Performance & Accountability

  • Maintain a strong understanding of property and market-level P&L performance including revenue, labor, expenses, margins, and profitability.
  • Hold property leaders accountable for financial performance and the levers within their control.
  • Review financial results, forecasts, and labor performance; partner with Commercial on annual budgets and market plans, manage reforecasts and cost mitigation, and report to C-suite and leadership on performance trends, key drivers, and forward strategy.
  • Partner with property teams on action plans to address financial gaps and improve profitability.
  • Evaluate labor, resource allocation, and operating expenses to improve efficiency without compromising service.

 

Operational Excellence & Standards

  • Set and maintain consistent operational standards across the market including service, facilities, safety, compliance, F&B, and events.
  • Conduct regular property inspections and operational reviews to identify and address gaps.
  • Ensure properties maintain strong operational readiness across front and back of house.
  • Partner with Facilities, property leaders, Class A building engineers, and landlords on maintenance, licensing, permits, health and safety, annual capital planning, and property reinvestment.
  • Use root-cause analysis to resolve recurring operational challenges, develop and maintain SOPs, and drive sustainable process improvements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows, labor models, processes, and resource allocation.
  • Establish clear KPIs and operating rhythms to drive accountability and continuous improvement.

 

Client, Member & Guest Experience

  • Set the standard for exceptional hospitality and consistent client, member, and guest experiences across the market.
  • Use NPS scores, client feedback, and service recovery trends to identify and drive improvements.
  • Coach property leaders on service culture, relationship management, and issue resolution.
  • Serve as a senior escalation point for significant client, member, guest, or employee concerns.
  • Ensure commercial growth supports, rather than compromises, the client experience and brand standards.

 

Cross-Functional Partnership & Growth

  • Connect property leadership with centralized teams to ensure priorities, resources, and expectations are aligned.
  • Lead cross-functional solutions to challenges impacting multiple properties.
  • Partner with leadership on new openings, expansions, transitions, restructures, and other major initiatives.
  • Bring market insights and operational recommendations to senior leadership to inform strategy and growth.
  • Continuously assess the operating model, leadership structure, and resources needed to support future growth.

  • Properties consistently deliver against financial, operational, and client experience goals.
  • Strong leadership pipelines and succession plans are in place across the market.
  • Commercial and operational teams work together to capture meaningful revenue opportunities.
  • Operational standards are consistently maintained while allowing for local market needs.
  • Recurring challenges are solved at the root and best practices are shared across properties.
  • The market demonstrates measurable growth in revenue, profitability, client experience, and leadership capability.

 

What We Look For:

  • 8-10+ years of progressive leadership experience in luxury hospitality, events, membership, flexible workspace, or related industries, with strong multi-unit or regional leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record driving revenue growth, profitability, and operational performance across multiple properties.
  • Strong operational expertise leading complex, multidisciplinary hospitality environments.
  • Experience with property openings, turnarounds, transitions, or operational transformations preferred.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, coaching, and team-building skills.
  • Strong financial acumen, including P&L ownership, budgeting, forecasting, labor, and KPI management.
  • Strategic, data-driven leader who can balance long-term growth with day-to-day operational execution.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment and travel regularly across the market.

Base Salary: Salary Min: 150,000   Salary Max: $160,000 

This role is also eligible for Convene's annual incentive performance bonus plan.

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.
