We are looking for an experienced Aerospace Tool Designer with 5–9 years of hands-on experience in designing and developing tooling solutions for aerospace manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in aerospace tool design and CATIA, with a solid understanding of manufacturing requirements, engineering drawings, and tooling development processes.
You will be responsible for translating engineering and manufacturing requirements into accurate, practical, and production-ready tooling designs. The role requires close collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and production teams to ensure tooling meets performance, dimensional, and manufacturability requirements.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop aerospace tooling, fixtures, jigs, templates, assembly tools, and manufacturing aids based on engineering and production requirements.
- Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings using CATIA.
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T requirements, and product definitions to develop accurate tooling concepts.
- Develop tooling designs considering dimensional accuracy, accessibility, repeatability, structural integrity, and ease of manufacturing.
- Support the complete tooling lifecycle, from concept development and design reviews through manufacturing, installation, validation, and modification.
- Work closely with manufacturing and production teams to understand tooling requirements and resolve design-related issues.
- Incorporate design changes and engineering revisions while maintaining configuration and documentation accuracy.
- Perform design reviews and identify potential manufacturing, assembly, or tooling challenges before production.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable aerospace quality, safety, engineering, and manufacturing standards.
- Coordinate with tool manufacturing teams to ensure designs can be efficiently manufactured, assembled, inspected, and maintained.
- Analyze tooling performance and implement improvements based on manufacturing feedback and production requirements.
- Maintain accurate CAD models, drawings, bills of materials, and other technical documentation.
Must-Have Skills
- 5–9 years of professional experience in aerospace tool design.
- Strong hands-on expertise in Aerospace Tool Design and tooling development.
- Advanced proficiency in CATIA, particularly 3D modeling, assemblies, surfacing, and detailed drawing creation.
- Strong understanding of aerospace manufacturing processes and tooling requirements.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, GD&T, and product definition data.
- Experience designing production tooling with a strong focus on accuracy, manufacturability, and reliability.
- Good understanding of materials, tolerances, fits, and mechanical design principles.
- Strong problem-solving and engineering design capabilities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with design, manufacturing, quality, and production teams.
Good-to-Have Skills
- Experience with forming tools and forming-related tooling.
- Knowledge of aerospace sheet-metal manufacturing and forming processes.
- Experience with dies, form blocks, bending/forming fixtures, templates, and related aerospace tooling.
- Prior experience working in the aerospace domain with aircraft structures or components.
- Familiarity with aerospace manufacturing standards and quality systems.
- Exposure to tooling validation, inspection, and production support activities.
- Knowledge of manufacturing methods such as machining, fabrication, sheet-metal forming, and assembly.
