Pay Range: $17.48–$17.58 per hour, based on experience

Sequoia Transitional Care is seeking an energetic, compassionate, and creative Part-Time Activities Assistant to join our team. This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who enjoys working with seniors, planning engaging activities, and creating meaningful moments each day.

Under the direction of the Activity Director, the Activities Assistant helps provide an ongoing program designed to support each resident’s interests and physical, mental, emotional, and psychosocial well-being.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and conducting individual, small-group, and large-group activities.
  • Help develop the monthly activity calendar and maintain participation and attendance records.
  • Lead recreational programs, games, crafts, music, social events, and other engaging activities.
  • Encourage residents to participate in group programs and self-directed activities, including hobbies, crafts, and reading.
  • Provide appropriate materials for residents, including audiobooks, large-print materials, or Braille resources when needed.
  • Assist with planning resident outings and arranging transportation for appointments, outings, and discharges.
  • Provide in-room activities for residents who are bed-bound, isolated, or unable to attend group programs.
  • Build positive and respectful relationships with residents and their families.
  • Assist with resident assessments, activity care plans, quarterly progress notes, and discharge planning as assigned.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, families, support personnel, community partners, and regulatory representatives.
  • Support quality-improvement initiatives and corrective action plans as requested by the Activity Director.
  • Participate in community planning related to facility programs and resident needs.
  • Keep the Activities Department clean, organized, safe, and secure.
  • Follow all facility policies, safety procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Protect residents’ privacy and maintain the confidentiality of their health information.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One year of experience in a long-term care facility preferred.
  • Previous experience working with seniors or individuals with disabilities is a plus.
  • Creative, enthusiastic, patient, and compassionate personality.
  • Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to read and understand procedures, policies, and instructional materials.
  • Ability to follow written, verbal, diagrammed, and scheduled instructions.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and adapt activities to residents’ individual abilities and interests.
  • Basic mathematical skills, including fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • No professional license or certification is required.

Physical Requirements

This position requires frequent standing, walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, talking, and hearing. The employee must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The role also requires adequate vision, including close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities.
