Department of Revenue is recruiting for an Accounting Technician position. We are looking for a talented, detail-oriented individual to join our Financial Services Division in the Agency Accounting & Procurement Unit. This position is headquartered in our Salem office; however, the successful candidate may be eligible for in-state hybrid work. Hybrid work consists of performing duties onsite in a standard office environment and working remotely. 

This position is required to be in the office 1-2 times per week to cover mail duties.

In order to be considered for Department of Revenue recruitments, you must reside within the state of Oregon. Current Revenue employees who live outside of Oregon may apply and will be considered.

What You Will Be Doing

Below is a sampling of job duties. It is not meant to encompass all duties.

  • Reviews and processes invoices and expense claims. Prepares daily cash flow report, complete daily and monthly garnishments, handle warrants, and receipts.

  • Serve as back up to other Accounting Technician positions and perform duties as necessary.

  • Processes invoice backup through the OregonBuys Platform.

  • Monitors and responds to email correspondence.

  • Assists customers in completing forms and filing correct documents.

  • Process mail (opening, distributing and/or electronic scanning).

  • Creates and maintains appropriate desk procedures.

This Is What You Need To Qualify
Two years of experience calculating, recording, and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety, balancing, and resolving discrepancies in computer edits; OR

One year of experience calculating, recording, and maintaining accounting information that must include coding transactions and checking them for propriety, balancing, and resolving discrepancies in computer edits AND at least 43 quarter (29 semester) credit hours from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 9 quarter (6 semester) credit hours in accounting. Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses 1 and 2; OR

Successful completion of the State of Oregon Accounting Career Mobility Program or equivalent accounting certificate program from an accredited college or university; OR

At least 94 quarter (62 semester) credit hours or an associate degree from an accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school that includes 12 quarter (8 semester) credit hours in accounting. Credit hours must include introductory level accounting courses 1 and 2 and may include any additional accounting courses with “accounting” in the title.

Training or experience must include using a computer to enter, update, or retrieve information.

The ideal candidate will possess the following desired skills and attributes:

• Experience reviewing and processing invoices with accuracy.
• Skill using computer systems to enter, update, and retrieve financial information.
• Ability to code financial transactions and verify accuracy and compliance.
• Experience balancing accounts and resolving discrepancies.
• Consistent use of accuracy‑checking methods when handling financial data.
• Ability to perform thorough reviews of work, including verifying documentation and totals.
• Strong attention to detail with high accuracy in financial record‑keeping.

  • This is a SEIU-represented position. This recruitment may be used to fill additional vacancies as they occur.

  • The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect an additional 6.95%.
