The Role
To lead and manage all workshop personnel and operations, ensuring the workshop runs safely, efficiently, and in compliance with HSE and company standards. To plan, prioritise and deliver workshop and maintenance activities to meet project schedules, quality requirements and budget targets, while overseeing asset management, workshop resources, and fleet and logistics coordination across the base.
Main Responsibilities & Key Result Areas
- Workshop Leadership & People Management: Lead and manage all workshop personnel, including coaching, performance management, training and workforce planning; coordinate training and professional development, and assist in managing workshop staff schedules and task assignments.
- HSE & Safety Compliance: Ensure the workshop operates safely, efficiently and in compliance with all HSE and company standards, with strict compliance to safety standards and protocols within the workshop environment.
- Workshop Planning & Delivery: Plan, prioritise and deliver workshop activities to meet project schedules, quality requirements and budget targets.
- Equipment Maintenance & Repair: Oversee the maintenance, repair, overhaul and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment and assets, including overseeing maintenance and repair schedules for workshop equipment.
- Workshop Resources & Inventory Management: Manage workshop resources, tools, equipment, inventory and third-party service providers, ensuring the workshop is stocked with necessary tools and materials.
- Preventive & Predictive Maintenance: Implement preventive and predictive maintenance strategies to maximize equipment reliability and minimise downtime.
- Process & Performance Improvement: Develop, monitor and improve workshop processes, productivity and operational performance.
- Continuous Improvement & Technical Leadership: Drive continuous improvement through technical leadership, root cause analysis, cost optimization and implementation of best practices.
- Logistics & Fleet Coordination: Arrange mobile cranes and forklifts as per operational needs; coordinate passenger transport for employees for training, medical reasons, site mobilization and demobilization; coordinate goods transport (collection and delivery) and material deliveries according to operational requirements; manage vehicle arrangements for corporate management and other operational requirements.
Requirements
Essential:
- Significant experience in a workshop or maintenance leadership role, overseeing mechanical equipment maintenance, repair, overhaul and troubleshooting.
- Proven experience leading, coaching and developing workshop personnel, including performance management, training and workforce planning.
- Strong knowledge of HSE standards and compliance requirements within a workshop or field maintenance environment.
- Experience in equipment management, including tracking, inspections, utilisation and lifecycle planning.
- Experience coordinating fleet, logistics and transport operations, including mass transport and cargo/material movements.
- Proven ability to plan and deliver workshop activities against project schedules, quality requirements and budget targets.
Preferred:
- Relevant technical or mechanical qualification/certification.
- Experience with CMMS or ERP-based asset management systems.
