We are looking for a strong, hands-on Python Backend Engineer with excellent programming fundamentals, problem-solving ability, and a clear understanding of software design.
The ideal candidate should be comfortable building backend applications using Python, designing APIs, modelling data, and writing clean, reliable, and well-tested code. Advanced experience with microservices, distributed systems, asynchronous programming, or cloud-native architecture is not mandatory, as these areas can be developed on the job.
Candidates may use AI-assisted development tools, but they must be able to independently review, explain, validate, debug, and take complete ownership of the generated code.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain backend applications using Python.
- Build clean and reliable REST APIs using FastAPI, Flask, Django, or similar frameworks.
- Convert business requirements into clear technical implementations.
- Apply strong programming fundamentals and object-oriented design principles.
- Design data models, entities, relationships, and database schemas.
- Write readable, modular, maintainable, and testable code.
- Debug application issues and perform structured root-cause analysis.
- Write unit tests and handle validation, edge cases, and failures.
- Participate in code reviews and clearly communicate technical decisions.
- Use AI and LLM-based development tools responsibly while retaining complete understanding and ownership of the implementation.
Requirements
- 2-3 years of hands-on software development experience.
- Strong knowledge of Python fundamentals, including:
- Data types and control flow
- Functions, classes, objects, and inheritance
- Encapsulation, abstraction, and polymorphism
- Lists, dictionaries, sets, and tuples
- Exceptions and error handling
- Modules, packages, and dependency management
- Iterators, generators, decorators, and context managers
- Strong understanding of object-oriented programming and software design principles.
- Good programming, logical reasoning, and problem-solving ability.
- Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and time and space complexity.
- Experience building REST APIs using FastAPI, Flask, Django REST Framework, or similar frameworks.
- Understanding of HTTP methods, status codes, validation, and API error handling.
- Good understanding of database fundamentals, including:
- Tables and relationships
- Primary and foreign keys
- Constraints and indexes
- Transactions and query design
- Experience writing unit tests and debugging Python applications.
- Ability to design simple and appropriate solutions without unnecessary abstractions.
- Ability to clearly explain the behaviour and purpose of implemented code.
- Ability to review and validate AI-generated code before using it.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with MySQL or PostgreSQL.
- Familiarity with Redis, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Celery, or cloud platforms.
- Exposure to microservices and distributed systems.
- Basic understanding of asynchronous programming using asyncio.
- Experience working in a product-focused or strong engineering environment.
- Exposure to applications handling meaningful production traffic.
- Basic frontend knowledge is an added advantage.
