Today, Larkin Street Youth Services is the largest provider of housing and services to homeless youth in the Bay Area. We serve 1,500 youth annually, operating or partnering to provide more than 500 emergency shelter, transitional, supportive, and subsidy-based housing beds at several unique sites across San Francisco.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Under the direction and leadership of the Chief Operating Officer, the Senior Managing Director of Facilities is responsible for the strategic planning, management, and execution of all facilities-related operations across the agency. This role ensures that all buildings, grounds, and infrastructure are safe, compliant, cost-effective, and aligned with the mission of Larkin Street Youth Services. The Sr. Managing Director will lead facilities staff, oversee vendors, manage budgets, and support program delivery by maintaining high-quality physical environments for staff, clients, and community stakeholders.

This is a full-time position, eligible for full benefits.

Your responsibilities:

Facilities Management & Operations

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of all organizational facilities, including offices, program sites, and community spaces.
  • Ensure buildings and systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, security) are maintained and operating efficiently.
  • Develop preventative maintenance programs to extend asset life and minimize disruptions.
  • Manage space planning, utilization, and office moves. 

Strategic Planning & Capital Projects

  • Develop and implement long-term facilities strategy aligned with agency growth and mission.
  • Plan and oversee capital improvement projects, renovations, and new site development.
  • Partner with leadership on expansion, relocation, or consolidation initiatives.
  • Ensure sustainability and energy efficiency practices are integrated into planning.

Budget & Financial Management

  • Develop and manage the facilities budget, including operating and capital expenditures.
  • Monitor expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or safety.
  • Oversee procurement processes for equipment, supplies, and services.

Vendor & Contract Management

  • Select and manage external vendors, contractors, and service providers.
  • Negotiate contracts and ensure adherence to service-level agreements.
  • Monitor vendor performance and maintain strong working relationships.

Compliance, Safety & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA and ADA standards.
  • Develop and enforce safety policies and emergency preparedness plans.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to facilities compliance.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop facilities staff, including maintenance and custodial teams.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, responsiveness, and customer service.
  • Set performance goals and conduct regular evaluations.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Partner with program, operations, IT, and HR teams to support agency needs.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for facilities-related concerns across departments.
  • Support a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible environment for clients, staff, and visitors.
  • Other duties as required.

WHO YOU ARE:

  • You are passionate about the Larkin Street Youth Services mission to end youth homelessness. Your experience working in a non-profit, healthcare or community based organization is preferred, but not required. 
  • You hold a BA in Facilities Management, Engineering, Business Administration or related field. We will consider equivalent experience in lieu of a degree. 
  • You have 8-10+ years of progressive facilities management experience with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role. 
  • You have a strong knowledge of building systems, maintenance practices, and safety regulations. 
  • You have proven experience managing budgets and capital projects. 
  • You are able to lead facilities teams and manage vendor relationships. 
  • You have general maintenance and repair proficiency, like multi-craft/handyman-level skills spanning basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and painting) sufficient to assess, triage, and perform minor repairs across facilities.
  • Your certification, such as Certified Facility Manager (CFM), Facilities Management Professional (FMP), or equivalent is preferred, but not required. 
  • It's ideal if you are familiar with sustainability initiatives and green building practices. 
  • You work best in a hybrid working environment, working from home up to 2 days per week. This role is required to be in our San Francisco office three (3) days per week.
  • You have a valid driver's license and you are comfortable driving to various facilities in Bay Area geographies, including San Francisco, Berkeley, and South San Francisco.
  • You are willing to work on call on nights and weekends as needed.
